Default Humminbird 1198 si hardware

i was recently given a Humminbird 1198 unit, but itís just the unit. I was wondering if someone could give me a list of all the things Iíll need to get it going. I know Iíll need transducer, power cord, mounting bracket. But have seen some units with the gps puck. Is that required for this unit also?

The 1198 requires an external GPS antenna. The antenna cable has the NMEA 0183 pigtail in addition to the Humminbird head unit connector.

Thanks for the information! Would it be worth buying all of that? I understand this was an expensive unit when it came out, but Iím looking at spending 250$ just to get it going. I currently have a lowrance elite 5 DSI on my boat.

The 1198 was a great unit in its day. It provides a better shallow water (<70 ft) display than just about anything else prior to CHIRP. It also has excellent bottom type discrimination. It has a much larger display and provides side imaging that your elite 5 does not. Is it worth $300 to get it working? That depends on what you need your fishfinder to do. You can often find the antenna and transducer on eBay for a lot less.

I'd rather run an 1198 than a little elite 5.
