Default Garmin upgrade transducer or plotter

I have a garmin 5212 , gsd22 ,reactor 40, gmr 24hd and transducer is a p79 in hull. My boat is a parker 2520 and the core was at least a 1" thick . Any time there is a chop I will lose bottom. But if i

ts smooth it works fine. My type of fishing is 50 to 800ft saltwater bottom. My main question for somone formiliar with the new products and transducers is should I get a m260 and do some cutting in bilge area to install it in Hope's it performs better or is the new units alot better than my old 5212 and should I just upgrade the plotter and get a thru hull. I hate to spend 1000.00 on a transducer that will not work with new plotter if new plotters are much better. If I need a whole upgrade prefer to do it all . Just have not ever been on a boat with one or seen one. Looking for advice. But do not want a transoms mount transducer.

If you are loosing sonar due to"Chop" that is a possible indication your transducer is mounted in an area of the hull that is not in full contact with the water while underway.
Or.....your P79 tank may not be completely full of fluid.

If you go with the M260 then it would be a positive to also up grade from the GSD-22 to the GSD24.
The M260 will outperform the P79...especially when going deep.
The M260 can be used with most of the newer systems.

Only issue with the m260 is it is so big. Is there a thru hull I should look at . I would need a low profile for lift and trailering. Also is the gsd 24 a chirp and is the chirp any better than normal.

You would only use the GSD 24 if you stay with your current 5212..and no, it is not a CHIRP.....but it is a far better unit than the GSD 22.
If you upgrade to one of the current systems you will not require a black box..and there are many good CHIRP thru hull transducer options.

The M260 has a footprint of 8.69" x 6"

I added a 7612 and wish I hadn't. I've got a 5212 and other than extra waypoints and the side scan/chirp the 7612 didn't give me much for my nearly $3k. I wish I had just bought a chrip/side scan unit and skipped the chartplotter extra stuff. New transducers don't work with the 5212 of course....

If you are just looking for a Good transducer without getting crazy look for a deal on a new Garmin 94sv with the transducer which should be the gt51tm. Yes transom mount . I had this on my old 21 angler and it read no issues at 40mph. I recently installed the same
transducer on my new Parker with a 7607. Hopefully she reads well. Yes you won’t be able to link the 5212 with the 94 but for $699 (when ) on sale you are getting a $500 transducer and additional 9inch screen for a great deal. Use the screen just for the sonar and if it doesn’t work well underway you will have a back up
navi.

I have read some Parker guys installing this transducer with no issue. Just stay away from the strakes

I recently did this updgrade, I had a 4212, GSD22 and a B60 transducer. I wasn't happy with my sonar and was debating weather to upgrading the transducer or the sounder box. I decided to upgrade the sounder box first to the GSD24. I am putting the boat in tomorrow and I will let you know my results.

Default Boston Harbor Gsd24 with b60 on the GPSmap4212

So this was earlier today. The B60 paired with my new Gsd24. I am very happy that i upgraded it is a big improvement over the Gsd22, though i think my gsd22 was broken, because i remember the gsd22 being better when it was new. Always a tough decision to spend money on old electronics, but now i think my needs are met.

Do not waste the money upgrading the transducer if you're going to keep the GSD 22. Its a pitfall excuse for a fish finder. The GSD 24 is much better but still not the best unit on the market. I have one of both paired with TM 260 transducers.

So if you're going to upgrade the fishfinder then you've got a decision to make? Go chirp GSD 26 or buy a new plotter with the built in chirp. If you don't want to spend a some sizable money then you might consider buying a used GSD 24. I've been planning on upgrading my units to 8612's with GSD 26's which means I'm going to have some used equipment to sell.

Great advice on the plus 94SV model I ordered one from West marine for 699 thought that was a great deal and I will upgrade my Box to A GSD24 and wait another year maybe upgrade the whole system to 8612. I do like the added protection with 2 GPS units . Thank yall for the tips. I will do them all and wait for the new units to come down in price before redoing the 5212.

The only thing I would comment is that senoerfi gave you great advice here. I would have at least given him the common courtesy to have earned your business. Nothing against wear marine as I use them as well.

both are good guys. Jim at BOE is great and he used to be the sponsored seller. Semperfi whom I don’t know personally but have seen his helpful posts is the electronics sponsor. He has his own forum as well. You should check him out of courtesy.

Yes I have seen he is very knowledgeable and helps many people that's why I would like to know his web site to post on this forum for other to read and try to help him in return. If I would have known I would definitely gave him a shot. I was just working off recommendations of this forum. Still need a m260 so he will get that as soon as I find his website.

Winds have been blowing like crazy . But first chance I get I will definitely do a comparison pic. One thing I am going to say is I love the 94 plus sv. It is very nice and it also integrated with my autopilot were I dont need the ghc20 interface on. Also it wasnt supposed to talk to my 5212 but after connecting to nmea backbone and doing updates on both i removed my g2 chart from 5212 and detail map is still showing on screen. So besides the radar on the 5212 I hoping the gsd24 makes a big difference if not the I'll just use the 5212 for radar as the 94sv is a great unit and hard to believe the price point of it. One downside of the 94sv is the mount . It snaps in the mount and becuase I have it over head I'm concerned on a hard pounding sea I could come lose. May secure it around with tape to be safe.
