Default Satellite Phone Help

I want a SAT phone for my 2500 hybrid so I can have a little more security. which brand is the best bang for the money? It would only be used for emergency situations but I want the phone, not the text versions unless someone can influence me otherwise with a good argument. thanks in advance for the help!

I have the Inmarsat 2, it works great and has the cheapest prepaid minutes.

I use the text version. Pay $12 per month and can send unlimited number of 3 preset messages (running late and safe is one of them) to let land folks know ur day. Doubles as second epirb. Pay a little more and get unlimited free form texts with Bluetooth to iPhone. I get 11 of those texts a month. If your on the water every day a sat phone with a plan is great. If your boat sits a month at a time, look at a texting one. Hardware is cheaper, plan costs are lower. It really gives you all you need. Lol, but I do pay $50 for weather and music a month.

Whatever you buy, make sure it uses the iridium network. Iridium is the most reliable network.

Garmin inreach 1st then if you want a phone go buy a phone, but every boat and honestly anyone who goes on boats should get one for themselves

. Has an SOS button so its like a PLB, has GPS, waterproof, plan are cheap, easy to use, emergency services even respond when received and give you updates. You can pull weather reports, and super easy to just keep in touch when out of cell service.

I’ve had a gen 1 Globalstar Sat-Fi for about 4 years now and have no complaints. My phone or tablet(or anyone on the boat) connects to the WiFi and can make calls and send and receive texts. My experience with call quality has been outstanding in the gulf.

This is probably a moronic question but Im trying to learn. Suppose you had a catastrophic failure, all power gone , or even worse like taking on water and all power gone, how can i use this in conjunction with my epirb to get someone on their way to helping me and my family out of harms way?
