Do C-Map cards need to renewed annually for updates like Navionics?
i asked the rep about updates as new coverage was available. He couldnít definitely answer but said if itís like the other cards, they will have free updates for 1 year.

Here are some screenshots.... CMOR may have better resolution, but it's like watching TV on 720p or 4K...you still get the picture. Isla mapping is a poorly done product in some areas where data is already available...

Gov Cut

Guv Cut

Port Everglades

Hillsboro

Marquezas...

Can you explain what we are seeing in the top two pics? They both say Gov Cut but look totally different??

Top image just to the left and about 1/3 across screen from the 83.8 water temp you see an area just south of channel.
Second image is that area zoomed in on.
At least it looks like it to me.

Ask your federal government to spend a few trillion dollars and you could have your sea floor mapped as well. Or just wait and the US will likely do it for you in a few years.

Got our first CMAP Reveal card in yesterday (New Orleans to St. Lucie Inlet) and spent just a few moments looking at it. From what I was able to view, itís a very large amount of coverage for an incredibly low price ($299 MSRP). Includes not only high-resolution depth shading but a full marine chart as well. In order to get all of the coverage and information included on this one card, youíre looking at spending well over $2000 on Navionics and CMOR cards.

I like the guys over at CMOR and am grateful for what they have done for the marine electronics and fishing industries, but they are going to have a hard time selling $700 depth only cards now. Iím sure this will be forcing their prices down significantly. Iím glad we only kept 1 or 2 east and west GOM cards in stock.

I will try to gather some screenshots today of each as a comparison.

i recently navigated to specific coordinates at / near government cut where that should have been plenty of rock relief, and pulled a diver over the area, and none of what was in the bathymetry shots was visible. I would attribute this to the data being 20 years old, and sand / silt / hurricanes / tides moving have covered much of this. I am not saying that this is useless, but it may not be everything we are hoping for.

The 1st, 2nd, 3rd reef and wrecks are off Dade and Broward are VERY accurate, I dove the area a lot over the last 10 yrs. I have the same data that I use with Google Earth.

Data is 10+ yrs old

Hope this is better than their cmap plus that I got when I bought my evo3 the bottom contour is bad. My insight mapping on my evo2 is much better was out Saturday and what I could see with insight would.not show with cmap max+. Was in 250 foot of water.

yes, i would imagine that a lot of the data is extremely accurate. but i was shocked that some rock reliefs / ledges were 100% non existent. That being said, i will take any data, rather than no data. Point is, it may not be the yellow brick road to gold that we would all like to have

Definetly a good choice for a VV 702 or 703 if the rest of your electronics system isn’t Simrad. I’m not sure if these new cards will work in the original VV7 though. Upgrading a VV (with VVLink module) to a larger Simrad screen is always an option. See below for a before and after of an upgrade I did because this customer couldn’t run a CMOR card in his Garmin system. If this customer keeps this boat and doesn’t purchase something new, I have a feeling I’ll be replacing the entire electronics with Simrad this winter or sooner.
