Default Pedal vs Power

Very much a fan of the FeelFree Dorado and boats with similar set-ups. But i have some serious concerns about life of battery systems. I live in Key West and could be several miles out on calm days. I want to avoid paddling miles with a dead battery on board. So looking at pedal boats and adding a 2.5ob or trolling motor set up. unless the drive boats will last a whole day. what are your experiences? thoughts?

I just have experience with Hobies, and always thought battery powered motors, and the like, were silly -- at some point, just get a real boat, as well. If you're even modestly fit, you should have no problem covering several miles with the Mirage pedal drive, and I'd get a hull design like the Revolution that you can paddle if something goes wrong with the drive. KISS, you know?

I definitely get what your saying. On good days down here 6-7 miles off shore would be the furthest id go. I'm looking at a Revo 13 or 16 with turbo fins. Lets see if the bank account can hold up! haha

I have a revo 16 and have no trouble covering those types of distances. Don’t even have the turbo fins. Good luck with it.

So what did you end up doing? I have peddled out to the blue water off Alligator reef and it's no fun in a hobie. I would go with the Alma on one side and 2.5hp suzuki, like "kayaker in keywest" (youtuber). It will get you out there on the nice days, and won't cost you an arm and a leg for gas and maintenance. Way less expensive than a boat, and way more rewarding when you take a big fish of a kayak.
