So why not put together a meaningful successful marketing campaign?
Because if you're marketing for boat rentals to people who aren't serious enough into boating to own their own boat or join a boat club, you're not going to market proper dock tie offs. It just wouldn't make sense. Boat setter isn't targetting us to rent boats from them. And if you're renting your own boat out, the tieing is on you not them. They are just the app that puts the two people together.

Also, boat setter lets you charter your own boat out to with you as a captain. Again, what does the tieing of the dock have to do with any of this. Most of the forum is repulsed that someone would dare rent out their boat but some people aren't into it like us on here, or need the money. I just find it so funny that you guys will nitpick the marketting campaign for not teaching how to tie off at a dock...Its not a captains course, its a single image shot of a boat. You really reading into this.

yea their audience is not this group. So why was their ad posted here? My understanding is you need to have a current ticket and limit passengers to 6 if u want to operate as captain but maybe I misunderstood.

Or even half-baked!

But seriously, the rental boat market in my area is huge already and those boats are just beaten up badly. I can't imagine adding a whole new dimension in with renters also on private boats. I'm gonna need a beefier rub rail and upsized fenders.

Most people would rather let somebody bang their wife than borrow their boat

As my friend used to say when I bought a tie he didn't like he would say, "Hey that's a nice tie why don't you buy another one and throw them both away!" This is possibly the worst idea in the history of private boat ownership. If you can't afford the "Toy" don't buy it. This isn't a house we are talking about. This is a toy that you buy to use not rent.

End of Rant

You (and many others) seem to have blinders on assuming those that rent their boat with this service "need" to rent their boat to afford it.

That is not always the case.

As an example I have 3 boats a Conch 27, Lake and Bay Boca 20 and a 21 Whaler. I can not use all 3 at the same time (nor would I rent all 3) BUT my Whaler as an example is a durable, easy to use and maintain rig that I could see renting as I although its maintained to the 9's I don't really care if it gets a nick, ding or scratch, heck I really only use it to go clamming. According to the boatsetter site I could see 3K monthly if I rent it out 8 days a month....Again I do not need or want the $ but for a boat I have sitting around $3K is tempting. There is no way in hell I would rent out my Conch or Lake and bay as they are too complicated to the average boater and likely too expensive to repair should something happen.
