Default West Marine Slidell closing

FYI. This may be old news but apparently West Marine Slidell is closing and has a closing sale starting today.

I wonder what’s on sale? That’s a hike for me to just go look around.

Not much remain. Very few items are at 75% off including some sailboat rigging. Anything I am interested in is regular WM price. Some other items are mark down from regular WM price to normal price.

I went in there about a week ago and nothing of any value to me was on sale. Optimax oil was still $45/gallon. Only items marked with red dots were actually on sale. Maybe they finally put it all on sale. I'm going to miss the convenience of being able to get certain items "in a pinch", but I can see how they are struggling. WM is ridiculously priced, even for a brick & mortar joint. Slidell is not an affluent town. So it makes sense they aren't making it.

Overpriced, yes...and truth be told (in my opinion) not really in a good location either.

The store is indeed closing. There are signs outside up to 75% off on select merchandise, however all of the good items are long gone. The bulk of what is left is at the regular overpriced and no discount. Also, they are following the closing of this store with a new location opening in Mandeville.

There is already a store in Mandeville, are they closing that one and moving to a new location?

Yes most of it is at MSRP or higher but they will price match from any internet or brick and mortar store so when I go in the I just pull up the cheapest internet price I can find and they match it. They did this for a while some years back then quit, but have started doing it again.

Too much web buying for almost any brick and mortar to make a profit, and that's a shame, because the "in a pinch" situation caused some boaters and fishermen to cancel trips before West Marine.

May happen again in Slidell and other places too.

Only repeating what the sign stated. I don’t get over towards Mandeville much and simply did not know there was a store there.

It's not surprising to hear. Mostly everything in there is grossly overpriced. Last weekend I stopped by the Mandeville store for a replacement latch for my cheap Igloo 94. They wanted $10 for a single one. I went home and ordered a pair for $8. Free shipping and no sales tax either. I suppose their pricing model is killing them. That Slidell location sucked too.

The Mandy store is staying open.
