Default Airborne King Mackerel Video from Horseshoe lump

Went out to the horseshoe lump last Monday (February 4th) to try for some tuna. It was covered with kings and sharks. Only saw one tuna, and managed to get him on film (1:42 in the video). We chunked for a while with a few good runs of possible tuna, but just couldn't get past all the sharks and kings. Caught more kings and shark than we ever wanted to, but still had a fun day. Glad I pulled out my camera to shoot these kings getting airborne. Some of them were getting 10+ feet of air.

In another month, late March ish, you can see the same out at Stetson Rock off Texas coast. Used to love to take new people out there on calm day, drop two big top water baits back and just twitch them along, 1-2 mph. Kings blowing up on them, knocking them 10' in the air, really gets people wanting to know more about offshore fishing.

Hardest part is not pulling the lure away on the strike, just letting it splash and they grab it on the downstroke.

Great video.

What baitfish were the kings chasing? On a small screen, but looks like they are bait fish jumping.

I was there one time many years ago when it was a "kings and sharks" kinda day.

While I was resnelling hook after hook and chunking up pogies etc I kept hearing this "ting" sound. I heard it over and over and over.

I was thinking wtf is that.

Finally i was looking in the right direction at the right time.

Someone threw/lost a coca cola can and it was floating on the surface. The kings were hitting it repeatedly and that was the sound I was hearing.

When they're like that they will hit ANYTHING including bananas (don't ask).
