Default First time fishing out of Venice

I booked my first Venice trip for February 17th. Anybody have any tips I should know about? From the Instagram posts it looks like they are getting Wahoo, Dauphin and the big tuna are starting to show up.

Dress a lot warmer than you think. Running the river is cold.

1 day or multi? Who'd you book with?
Layer up- could be cold/wet morning and hot AF in the afternoon or cold all day...never know over there this time of year.
Depending on your guide, you shouldn't need much more than:
proper clothing (to include non-marring soled shoes)
sunblock (check w/Cpt...some don't allow/like the aerosol type on their boats)
sunglasses/hat
food for the day (though if the fish are biting, you'll forget about eating and/or won't have time 'cept for ride out and in)
might consider gloves
hand towel or two
camera (unless your phone is insured)
tip for mate(s)
big ass cooler
Have fun & good luck....we want pics when you're done.

Layer, bring more food than you think. Donít try to drive home after an all day trip, and Venice marina seafood baked potatoe.

Venice seafood tater
dont get drunk and stay up the night before
stsrt drinking at daylight of your day offshore
more clothes than you think
waterproof outer layer
waterpoof deck shoes / boots
sandwiches / snacks
leave beer in boxes. - thereís plenty of cooler space built into the boat. They donít want yours in the way and itís easier to put in the boat if still boxed up.
Did anyone mention cold weather clothes with warm weather clothes under them and a rain suit?

Oh I almost forgot. Donít let Venice Marina clean your fish. They literally have not cleaned a knife ever! Not joking

Go eat at Changes next to Elzeys. Very good food, the owners are terrific and a much quieter crowd than the marinas.

Heading out with Voodoo charters. Has anyone heard any reports lately? According to Windfinder Saturday and Sunday are looking pretty good.

a lot of good fish have been caught the last few weeks. Like anything itís hit and miss. As a fishing guide myself the question gets asked a lot when the best time to fish is. The old wise tell answer from a guide is ďyesterdayĒ. There is no time better than others itís just a matter of getting out there, being prepared and hoping the odds are stacked in your favor.

dont say that Iíve been out in steady 6í seas that were building all day. Charter boats will roll with the tide if you have the stomach. Dolphin 2 out of grand isle but that is a 65í boat. Man I was green all day.

My advice is to relax and don't worry about it. They will either bite or they won't..

Had a great trip with captain heavy of voodoo charters. Went out on their 39seavee with quad 350ís. We went 8 for 9 on 20-30lb YFT and came home with a good chunk of meat. Seas were a bit sporty coming in and we were the last day they were doing charter for a few days because the weather was getting worse. Didnít get the trophy 150lb tuna this trip which gives me a reason to go back. Overall it was a great experience and Venice is a place everyone should visit.

Them little yft are a little like veal as far as yum factor goes, but hopefully you get to battle the beast on the next trip.
