Default Orange Beach Deep Drop

Since we are only going to get to snapper fish a few weeks this year I am going to give deep dropping a try.

I figure I will do two types the Beeliner bite --Maybe 300' of water and then tiles and larger fish in the 450+ range.

Anyone want to provide details on either. How long a run is it and what direction is best out of OBA?

You can catch beeliners suspended 15-30 ft down. No need to deep drop for them. If im sending something down in 300ft of water its going to be a big ole grouper bait....

Sucks that it's gunna be rough Saturday, otherwise I'd say let's go ride the electricity. I'll be there this weekend, if you're in town I can drop by and plug some digits in for you. I don't have much in the beeliner dept. but I have a few spots for tiles and grouper.

Almost due South out of OB for about 60 miles just beyond Swingle Reef are The Steps. Just look for closely spaced bottom contour lines for snowy/yellow edge grouper in around 600' of water and push a bit further South to 800-900' for pure tile fish, both golden and blue. Tight Lines..

Had some good luck last year on tiles in our first year of trying deep dropping for much the same reason as yourself. Send me a pm with your number, ill get over to the boat at some point and send you some information I have compiled.

I've been planning the same thing. This will be my first year trying deep dropping. Will leave out of Dauphin Island.

The snapper situation is absurd. We spearfish and see it first hand. Wrecks the size of a king size bed will have 50+ on them.

Don’t let the feds know your targeting those deep water grouper or there will be a short season and a small bag limit on them also . They will all the sudden become endangered.
