I think it is insane should be at least 180 days --or more.
There are fish everywhere.

If you break this down assume there are 4 people / boat so 8 fish / trip @ 10 lbs ea. for 27 days. There would have to be 500 boats a day in state waters to hit the weight. I guarantee they will shut it down at 12 days and say we went over.

Pretty sure this is state and federal like last year...

According to ADCNR, the upcoming season will also be the second in Alabama that is being considered as part of an ongoing NOAA Fisheries study examining the viability of limited state management of red snapper in federal waters, which begin nine miles from the coastline.

Think this also eliminates us AL folks from fishing FL state water during their season. That seems dumb on the states part huge loos f cross over licenses.

Maybe Mississippi will announce ours sooner than later now. I got friends and family waiting to make plans and take vacation days off.

Is this going to be 9nm, 12nm, or out to 200nm like was proposed last year?

Florida is supposed to make their official announcement after the meeting on Feb 20-21. The proposed dates are June 11 to July 12. Nine days shorter than last year because their "landing estimate" (guess) said we went over the quota last year. With absolutely no system in place to actually know how many fish were harvested Florida's "landing estimate" is just as flawed as it always was with NOAA guessing. er..um "estimating".

Texas should just annex the rest of the gulf states and claim the 9 miles. Call it “New Texas”

Did anyone else read that the charter guys get 7 days a week at the Snapper this year? Or is this Fake News? (Referring to Alabama)

That is true for the Charter guys. Probably, even upsets me more. I get it they are running a business, but they have also played a huge part in why we have regulations as we do here in Alabama. Hopefully they manage it a little better than last year, and they don't close the season early. Last year was a real pain, escpecially when you have people coming in from out of town.
