Thanks for that link. If they put that bridge over Wolf Bay then it makes Barber marina much more doable for me.

Thanks for the link. Lots of transportation projects going in the next couple years in OBA. I had heard about the Wolf Bay bridge but not the other one west of Foley Beach Expressway. Add to these projects the big county boat ramp develpoment on the north side of the intercoastal across from the Wharf, and there's lots of infrastructure being added.

What is the reason to put that bridge just west of the current foley beach express toll bridge at the wharf?

My guess is at some point that one will go all the way to the beach road.

that would make the most sense but the environmental groups sued the state when they were trying to rebuild the gulf state park hotel and part of the agreement was they would allow that to be built if the state promised not to do the cross island connector (which is the name of the road/bridge going from canal road straight south to the beach highway).

It is stupid but it is what it is. The bridge west of the toll road is a threat to the toll people to make them play nice.

The bridge to the west of the toll bridge will alleviate congestion on 59. Traffic studies show that a significant amount of cars bypass the toll bridge and go to gulf shores and come back to OB on Canal. Canal Rd will be widened before the bridge is built. All of the Right of way has been purchased to complete the new bridge project/road. There may be a roundabout just passed the gas station in the median of the Foley Beach Express that will take you to the new road/bridge. The Wolf Bay bridge will be funded by the City of Orange Beach by an increase in taxes on lodging. This bridge will only be for expanding Orange Beach north.

Good lord they spend a coupla grand on a vacation or hundreds on a concert. And burn 5 bucks worth of gas to avoid a 2.75 toll? Makes no sense to me.
I would love to see the bridge though, anything to help with the damned traffic.

if the locals have anything to do with it, that bridge won't be built. The locals are pushing for the Wolf Bay Bridge not the one west of the toll which is a pointless project and would cause more issues than it fixes.

Look at a map. The Wolf Bay bridge would most likely not be used by anyone going West towards Mobile. They would still use toll bridge or new Western bridge.

Speaking of Barber: If you happen to be close to Birmingham, I suggest you visit his Barber Motorsports Museum. We were given the tour by his curator of the car collection, and taken down in the basement where the shops were. He had a room with racks of motorcycles restored--hundreds and hundreds of cycles. In total, he has 1500 motorcycles.

The museum is simply magnificent, and the racetrack is the most beautiful racing facility I've ever seen. Mr. Barber remains the largest landowner in the Birmingham area, and there's no telling how much the guy's worth. They said he was remarkably thrifty/frugal when spending money, however.

I have not been to the museum but I saw in the news that.....They just had an auction and sold a bunch of motorcycles

the bridge west of the Wharf I understand is funded by the state of Alabama and the Barbers bridge is funded by Orange Beach through an increase in lodging taxes

lots of reasons folks are for or against a new bridge , I suspect businesses along the existing roads would object to the Wolf Bay Bridge funneling traffic away from the congested areas.

i hope both bridges get built

Holiday weekends the traffic is backed up from Gulf Shores to I-10
