Default Saints/Drew Brees

So as we watched the game last night after Drew set the record my wife told me she really thought it was predetermined/fake and Drew was allowed to throw that touchdown by the Washington defense. Commenting that Drew's family was brought down to the field, etc because it was already known the record would be set on that play. Also thought the outcome of the entire game was predetermined citing questionable calls that went the Saints way, etc.

Anybody else think this way?

While I think the NFL has become more like professional wrestling than football I don't think the outcome of the games are predetermined.

I find myself wondering the same thing as your wife more and more. I hope we are wrong as I am a huge saints and football fan.

No.

Redskins defender was gonna push saints receiver out of bonds. He missed and barely got his back (defender was behind him).

They brought his family down because he only needed around 35 yards and the Saints were about to get the ball. Pretty safe bet on an 75 yard drive he would get 35 yards passing.

I do think part of the NFL is rigged, but not this, they knew he was getting close so they had them ready, hell, they prolly had his family on the sidelines the entire game. Drew brees averaged over 350 yards passing per game so they knew the record was getting set that night. Was night rigged for that one play

When I watched that play it seems the defender could have stopped him and it felt rigged to me. Just saying. Love the Saints but it felt rigged.

Despite their performance, I've been a 'Skins fan since the early 60's when I moved to D.C.

The only setup in that was the lousy defensive setup, but I've come to expect that.

yeah been a die hard skins fan thatís how we roll when we want to win. It never speaks out well for us. I think we should start playing to lose. Then we may have a great season. But they are my team and I will always love em. Thank god I have Clemson.

very well could have been, but whether it was rigged or not, brees was getting that record that night just on pure talent bc he passes for so many yards every game

Itís simple. You know heís gonna throw for 8 or whatever yards for every attempt. You know when the drive starts he can only get that many passing yards. So barring a complete breakdown you can narrow it down to a 4 or 5 play stretch. And itís not like the skins are reknown for their pass defense this year.

Iíll also add that if Iím the saints offensive coordinator and I know brees is about to break the record and Iím getting down to the red zone, you bet I want it to be a td. If he gets the ball to the 15 and breaks the record, he does the whole family ceremony thing thatís a pretty big distraction. Now heís gonna come back, recage his focus and start throwing again in tighter pass lanes? Thatís a recipie for leaving 4-7 points on the field.

It was certainly not rigged. The Skins had difficulty most of the night. The Saints ran the same play earlier in the quarter but flipped to the other side. The primary receiver was Cam Meredith who was running the seam. He had a big gain on that play. On the record breaking throw they flipped the receivers to the right side. The Skins were in 3 deep coverage. The safety who had deep middle picked up Cam Meredith on the seam route. Josh Norman had deep coverage on the right side of the field. Alvin Kamara went out to the right flat and Drew gave him a look. Josh Norman bit and stayed short in coverage on Kamara but left Smith wide open. The safety had a bad angle and could not make the play. Touchdown!

I was at the game and the saints slammed the skins. If we had not fumbled the ball early in game giving the skins an easy 7 points the game would have been even more of a blow out. Both the defense and offense finally showed up and it showed. The skins played horribly. Questioning this game and Brees is another example of how the NFl, fans and media ignore how good Brees is compared to other top quarterbacks in NFL history. It's ridiculous. He will have the touchdown record soon.

This thread got me to thinking about my all time favorite NFL quarterback.

1 Sonny Jurgensen

2 Roman Gabriel

3 Joe Montana

4 And that great Saints quarterback and is name is not Brees.

Congrats Drew Brees, great job.
