Default Destin Area Fishing

I have a trip booked a few weeks out to take my boat down for the week, fishing inshore and nearshore. I also have a captain reserved for 2 days to go out on my boat with me. I booked specifically to try to time when the weather cooled down a bit and the fishing would pick up. Now, this tropical storm/hurricane is blowing in the week before (which should help fishing a week or two after), and I've read where there has been red tide detected in the waters around PCB, Destin and Pensacola. I know it's all a guessing game, but will the storm maybe blow the red tide out, or will it make it worse? I'm new to this, and just trying to decide what I want to do before I am too late to cancel the house I've rented for the week. Also don't want to waste the time and money if the fishing is going to be bad and we have no chance of catching fish. I'd rather delay it if that's the case. Trip is planned from 10/21-10/28. Storm is supposed to blow in this week sometime. What are your thoughts?

nobody knows where the storm will make landfall, its too early to tell. so, that makes the guessing game of the affects of the storm a moving target. the storm will break up the weedlines offshore, likely break up the red tide patches and will kill fishing for a few days. hold tight for now, lots of peoples lives will be impacted and fishing may not be on the top of the list at the moment.

True. It seems to be changing very fast. It went from a projected Cat 1 to a Cat 3+ just this morning. I called the lady I rented the house from this morning, and we'll decide on the trip after the storm passes through. She's willing to work with me and reschedule, or refund, either way. Hopefully, the storm weakens and minimal property and no lives are impacted. That's far more important than a fishing trip, for sure.

As far as fishing goes, it will be better after the storm than before. However, there might be a lot of damage to be repaired, possible power outages for days or weeks. Might not be a good place to be during that time.

We stay around the harbor with our boat about 6-8 times a year and had one of the rental agencies we deal with sent a few pictures today of their properties and they had no damage. Waterview towers and east pass towers all had no damage.

overall Destin fared very well, minimal damage and everything should be back up and running by the weekend. who knows about fishing. nobody has been able to go for the last few days. watch out for floating debris and enjoy the nice weather.
