Default Auger or Magnolia?

Anyone been to Auger or Magnolia recently? Wondering if there is any life out there, been dead all summer wondering if it has changed yet.

Went to Auger last Friday, August 24th. Got there late afternoon and fished it for two hours. Not much life there at the moment. Chunked for tuna the whole time and only caught barracuda. Not a single Tuna. A friend of mine went to Magnolia that same afternoon an caught a couple of nice yellowfin. Clearly better there than Auger!

Hit both on August 18, both sucked. First big trip in 20 years owner didn't release a blue. 2 yellowfin off Magnolia, Auger produced 1 barracuda on the troll and nothing on the chunk. We marked good fish deep (350'+) at both, but not much chewing. I think a bumper squid crop this year has led to poor tuna fishing all over, as there is no reason for them to come up to eat flyers.

At Auger 3 weeks ago I could see the squid around my transom lights. I had several 3” squid jump in the boat as if something were chasing them. Never saw a tuna bust the top, we did manage a few small yellows but we stayed all night and worked hard for them. Was hoping someone had some better reports.

I run to Auger from Sabine, 165sm run for us.

For the most part Auger has been slow most of the year. I know people that work on Auger and get live updates from it when I am thinking about going. So far this year has not been good enough reports for me to make the run.

Magnolia - 155 nm
Auger- 136 nm

Boat speed is either 10, 22, or 30-35 knts, depending on which boat and when we leave.

Auger and Brutus are right about the same distance from the point.

I have limited experience in that part of the gulf. I’ve flown to the Auger a few times but not extensively. I’d imagine the pressure is way less out there?

Yes pressure is much less than the Eastern side of the state, which is good, except for when you make the long haul and the fish aren’t there. You don’t have a lot of options once you are out there.

Any recent reports from this area? Thinking about going Sunday from the Point.
