Orange Beach Marina and taxi to nearby hotel.
Same at Pensacola Beach.
Destin has plenty of docks w/ hotels nearby.
Panama City has Baypoint Marina & hotel.

Been too long since I've been S of Anclote Key by water, but as mentioned, a current edition of a waterway guide is the key.

Pls let us know how your trip progresses, and enjoy!!
Thanks for this information. That is exactly what I had decided, find a secure marina, and then taxi to the hotel. It's looking more like Pensacola will be the first stop, docking at the pier, and taxiing into town to the hotel. Thanks for that info, and the response. I will definitely keep everyone apprised as to how this goes, and what I find along the way.

Also thanks for the tip to the Waterway guide. I have now purchased it, and Skipper Bob's guide. These both appear to be very helpful in deciding where to go.

you may want to look at active captain, it gives real experience from real boaters and it has most fuel stops and local knowledge of ports

If you end up going mid-to-late February, let me know. I am going from NOLA to Jacksonville. Buddy boat might be nice to have doing the Carrabelle to FL crossing.

The Wharf Marina in Orange Beach has a hotel right next to the marina. It's a Springhill Suites or something like that.

Sea Hag Marina in Steinhatchee has deep water dock space, diesel and they have rooms. Not much to do in "town" but Roy's restaurant is within walking distance.

The Great Loopers pick up your route coming out of The Tenn-Tom Waterway and Mobile Bay. You can read their online diaries in great detail.

They often make the open water Gulf crossing east of Appalachacola in small groups. They are usually start that way around April after meeting at a state park in NW. AL in March.
