Default Ozark Trail Premium Cooler

Wal-Mart dropped the price of these 52 quart coolers to $127, so I went ahead and bought one. With my bum shoulder, a loaded 52 quart ice chest is about all I am willing to lug around. This one is not for boat duty. No way I am jumping on and off a boat with the thing. I bought it for camping. We have a pop-up camper that we use for weekend get-aways and the 54 quart Igloo that is great for a single day use on the boat, doesn't quite cut it for a 2 day camping trip where the ice chest will be opened and closed dozens of times.

I lined the bottom of the ice chest with 3 of these.

They fit perfectly. Then I put a frozen one gallon jug in the middle. After 48 hours in the summer heat there was still ice in the middle of the gallon jug and the freeze packs were still frozen. The contents stayed cold. FWIW The ice chest is labeled as assembled in the USA with imported and domestic parts.

It won't give you as much cred as your Yeti and your Salt Life T-Shirt down at the dock, but it'll get the job done and save you enough money for quite a few cold ones in the process. I have read a number reports on these and they are holding up well. The biggest complaint is that the O-Ring in the drain leaks on some. A free replacement solves the problem. They have a 5 year warranty.

Cool post, thank you.

I have a Gi-hugic marine Igloo I got on-sale at Costco, and it works great except for those dang cheap hinges.

When I need another cooler, I have often thought about this Ozark model. Thanks for some good info to help with my decision.

Best, T.

I bought a 72 at Ozark Trail last year and have no regrets and it came with a dry goods wire rack. Works just as good as my Yeti and Pelican, which sell the wire rack as an option for $. I also like the combo large or small drain that the Ozark has.

No, they do not come with theft enticing flare.

My wife got me a 52qt Ozark for my birthday back in August. One of the feet had a bent bolt that drug/scoured the ground, plus it looked pretty beat up upon delivery. The warranty information says in all caps 'Contact California Innovations if you have any issues, please do not contact Walmart directly'. Basically begging for the chance to make it right and not raise any red flags with the distribution deal they have with Walmart. To sum it up quickly, they were amazing, ended up sending me two new ones, never asked for the original one back. 1 hack saw, a 12 cent 1/4" bolt, and some Gorilla Glue later I now have 3-52qt Ozark Trail ice chests for the price of $127. They are trying super hard and will bend over backwards to make you happy. I feel like I hit the Ice Chest Lottery.

Now time to fill them with fish.

I put 1 case of hot beer in my Yeti and 1 bag of ice. Two days later there were 4 cases of frozen beer and 5 bags of ice. Honest!

Mine looks like Ace Ventura delivered it. That may be a stretch, but it had some scuffs right off the shelf. And some tooling marks. But I reckoned if I used it, it was going to look imperfect soon enough.

That is pretty awesome that you got 3 high end coolers for the price of 1/3 of one Yeti.

Bang for the buck its hard to beat the Ozark. A friend of mine swears by his 72 qt. I opted for the artic 45 recently but am likely going to try an Ozark also just because of the good price.

I used to work for Walmart.com as a buyer in the fishing/hunting department as well as made a trip to China to source Ozark Trail items. I can tell you that the process to make Ozark Trail items (camping, hunting, fishing) are all on the same level as any of the higher end brands. Some of them are even made in the same factory as the higher end brands, with little twist and gimmicks to not violate any patents. The coolers are solid, both the hard and soft sided ones!

Any issues w/ the T-handle latches? I heard that they were a little weak and breaking easily, when compared to the solid rubber latches instead of loop shaped.

I can't speak to the rubber latch sourced specifically for Ozark Trail coolers, but I can speak to that design of rubber latch - I got sucked into a "good deal" by the traveling cooler guy for Great Lakes Coolers a few years back, and bought an "Ice Locker" cooler on the cheap, which has those exact style rubber latches. In short - they're garbage. They don't hold up and they snap at the "loop" points often. West Marine sells them as replacements for older Igloo latches, but even Igloo doesn't use that style any longer. If you like replacing latches, then that style is for you.
