Suk it. What do your think happens when my 4 year old brings up a 17" fluke with her frozen pole? It gets carefully released it doesn't get gaffed because it is the biggest fish she ever caught.

You are right. All those things are true. But at least I never poached a fish.

If my 4 year old caught a 17" Fluke I would've put her on a chair beside me in the kitchen so she could stand on and showed her how to cook her fish..no way in hell I'd threw it back. Some things are worth a lifetime of memories screw the fucking govt.

I find it hard to believe you never knowingly, or mistakenly taken a fish you should not have. I absolutely believe in resource protection and try to always follow current regulations, but I doubt you have never been a "poacher."

One time my wife and I thought we caught our limit of gray snapper (10) and we were careful to not keep one under 10 inches. Turns out they were juvenile red snapper. To compound the error, I miscounted the fish in the ice chest. There were 11 fish.

When we got to shore there were Game and Fish officers and one asked if we caught anything. I spoke right up and said, 'Yep, we caught our limit of grey snappers." He came over the cleaning table and we counted... 11, and I apologized. He simply said it's hard to count them in a cooler. Be more careful next time. Surely he knew they were red snappers, but he didn't say anything. I think he knew I would learn what they were.

I did start having doubts after looking at photos online, and when I went to Half Hitch Tackle and showed them the photo, it was confirmed: juvenile red snapper. I felt terrible, but won't make that mistake again.

Be kind to others and educate. Don't throw stones.

r_ventura, the fact of the matter is; you would have never known there was an out of season fish gaffed had someone local not clued you in.
Then, you jumped in with your normal self-righteous attitude and negative one liners because the anonymity the internet provides is a priceless gift to people like you. Every post you make reaks of your delight in the fact you don't have to worry about a face to face discussion, or, being held accountable for your lack of respect.
Now, a quick question. This 4 year old daughter you spoke of; would you say "suk it" in front of her in the same manner you have here hiding behind your keyboard?

Sorry but never. Despite it being legal to keep female crabs, those always go back too.

I was wondering why this went 5 pages.

High, low, doesn't matter. Big dude with the gloves could have just grabbed him.

👆 I gaff no fish unless I'm keeping them either to eat or if I'm short on cut bait.

No but I've caught large sharks, and as aggravating as they are I cut the line when they get along side the boat 🙄
