Default NOLA Airshow

If you're not going fishing this weekend the NOLA Airshow is going on in Bell Chase. The show and parking are free. I'm taking my two boys on Sunday.

We are going. My Kids can't wait. We have seen the Blue Angels in a practice flight in Pensacola about 5 years ago but never a live show. Looking forward to it even though I am sure it will be a packed house.

I might take my daughter Sunday. I remember going, and being in awe, as a kid. Of course, we could watch from our house because we live close enough to see and hear jets daily. However, there is something to be said about seeing it up close. I spent a few years doing taxiway and runway maintenance; we had a job at Pensacola NAS for a few weeks, and had to stop working for an hour a week while the BA's practiced. It was great to have an hour private show every week.

We went today; good show. It was hot with little shade to be found. There are a lot of planes on display. There were quite a few acts and all did a great job. There was always something in the air from 10am until the end which was around 3pm. Traffic in and out was a nightmare, be prepared to wait and deal with idiots behind the wheel. There is one lane in and one lane out and it was a good sized crowd.

It was good and my wife actually said she enjoyed it too.

yep...we got there late, but got to see the blue angels. My wife enjoyed it more than I thought she would.

I must have seen at least 5 people that the sun really got to. On the way out, someone passed out trying to leave.

We saw that too. EMS just passed us to get there. Me and the three boys escaped sunburn but momma got a little. The Blue Angels were good but I may have been more impressed by the F16 demonstration. The JackLinks plane and the Lucas oil plane were really impressive too.

COLD this morning, but turned out nice. The small planes were awesome. Amazing how they stall and tumble. I missed the River Rattlers which dad said stole the show. I thoroughly enjoyed the Viper F-17 demonstration. By the time the angels came on my two boys (2 and 5) had had enough. Made that part unenjoyable. Worst part was it took us more than 2 hours to get off the base. It was bad. Thankfully both boys slept the entire time.

Saturday morning, I decided to make a quick trip out of Port Sulphur. I didn't know about the air show and got caught in the traffic on Hwy 23. I think it took about 45 minutes to get from Belle Chasse High School to the base. It was pretty slow going. I timed my return to be past the base well the show ended. It was cool to see the Blue Angels on the ride back.
