Anchor on the boat: Venice

Something that's always worried me was the boat losing power in the middle of the river. I always carry an anchor just in case something was to happen. I would be able to anchor and keep from drifting into the ship channel.
What's your thought's on this? Do you carry an anchor fishing inshore or offshore out of venice?

I carry an anchor and I think about 600 feet of rode (4 small spools). It is hardly enough to anchor offshore of Venice, where we are very rarely in less than 250 feet of water.

If you ever find yourself without power on the Lower Mississippi make a Pan Pan call and notify the Crescent Pilots of your location. If you anchor on a mud flat near the river bank and a large ship passes at speed, you will experience the wake from hell and it will most likely swap your boat as the wake moves from the deep river channel onto the shallow mud flat. Always carry and anchor with chain and rode. An anchor is the symbol of a Mariner, how much good mojo you gonna have if don't carry that symbol?
