Default Live bait boat near Perdido Pass bridge

Hi fellas, I'm new to the forum and hope I have this in the right place. I'm looking for a live bait boat near the Perdido Pass bridge to purchase live bait on my way out to the gulf. Failing that, maybe further up towards Destin? Thanks JJ

I know the Caribe marina has live shrimp but I'm not sure about offshore baits.

We once had one for a short time 7-8 years ago.. Hear the City permit cost to much so he left and no one has had a bait boat since.. Everyone just catches their own bait around the bridge or jetties on the way out..
I keep pin fish traps running during fishing season

This ^^

Haven't seen or heard of a bait boat in at least 7 years and then only during summer season.

Pensacola Pass has a live bait boat for all of snapper season and the summer. He's in Ch. 11 and he carries cigar minnows.

This is correct. Typically about 2-3 miles east of the pass on the second bar off of the beach. He's in a blue boat. You'll see the line of boats. Mostly cigar minnows. Sometimes hardtails.

Good info to know. I'm out of touch with what's going on in the Gulf since it's been years since I fished down there. At the present time I don't have a boat but I'm looking hard. Plan to attend the Wharf Boat show in Orange Beach in March. I may find something I like before then.

I plan to store the boat and in this case it looks like Pensacola will be the home base. I live north of Montgomery so the drive is about 225 miles and multi day trips would be in order due to the distance. My Grandson/fishing partner lives in Mobile but is only available on the weekends and holidays.

I might look into a fishing club in the area to cultivate fishing buddies.

You have to get your own bait unless you need shrimp or bull minnows. Many good videos on how to toss a net on the internet.

10 foot, 1.5 lbs., 3/8" to start.

Most of my fishing will be off shore from bottom fishing, trolling, jigging, looking for a tug on my line. As I said I'm looking for a boat in the 33 ft range and a Grady White 336 Canyon is about right with twin Yamaha's. With this boat I can fish near shore and blue water or wherever I choose. I'm not locked in to a Grady White, a Yellowfin or Edgewater would be just fine as well. The beam must be 12 ft or under in case I need to trailer it. That's max width for an annual trailer permit in Alabama.

I have used a cast net before and if I can't buy the bait I want, I will certainly use one.

Someone asked where I live, that would be a small town north of Montgomery called Sylacauga.

Feel free to touch base with me if your fishing out of the Pensacola area. I'm a full time guide and on the water 200+ days a year. I don't mind giving some helpful info.

Jackyjack I live in Alabaster, work in Sylacauga once a week and am originally from Mobile...moved here 4 years ago. I too am in the market, but for a smaller center console...24-28. Hopeful to pull the trigger soon. Have done any Striper fishing in Lake Martin? Shoot me a PM with your contact info and let's get together...
