Default Ice maker

I have a small chest freezer make block ice in a white container obtained from sno-wizard makes about 150 # of block ice in 15 # containers takes about 2 days to freeze the ones i use, this takes care of my ice needs, a much larger one would probably hold 300 to 400 #. The blocks melt much slower. Could not justify the expense of maker in salt air where every thing rusts in a year. For the maintance cost of maker could buy new freezer. I use cheapest chest type, nothing to rust or break works good in shed. Never turn off.clean out frost every 6 months or when it stops door from closing.

I just save gallon milk jugs, fill with water, Cheap.

Use a hammer to break it out.

My beer fridge freezer will hold 6 gallons, upright freezer holds more.

Mako,

Blanchards Refrigeration in Houma has been a pleasure to deal with. Their service is top notch IMO. If it's not too out your way you might check them out too.

Aren't you fishing out of GI? Why not just buy bulk ice?

I get 800 lbs of ice in Cocodrie for 25 bucks at Rock's Ice and Fuel (985) 594-9257. They will also sell you 50lb baskets for 4 bucks in case you are just taking out the bay boat. I think its about the same in GI and Venice. And its saltwater ice so it is much colder than regular ice and makes a nice slurry as it melts.

That's a good one, I've often wondered about that myself.
