My crew and i will be spending one night down there next week. Where should we stay. I guess the most important factor is what restaurant do y'all think is better at either marina?

The room I had at CC in Oct was trash. Floor was rotted, we were trying to walk on stringers because it felt like you'd go through. They said it was from the guys working the oil spill (coolers sweating / leaking). It was dirty as well. Don't know if they've been redone. Won't stay there again.
The cabins a VM were decent, but then, I had the double bed.
I'd have to give the restaurant at VM a
too.

venice marina, no question
if you get tired of their restaurant, just cruise over to cypress cove and eat there as well, it's five minutes away
the "cabins" at venice marina are FEMA trailers, but they are new, clean, and perfectly acceptable,. you arent going to be hanging out in there much anyway
the people who run v.m. are some of the nicest you will ever meet

Venice Marina hands down. I spoke to Bill Baker(owner) a few times and is very friendly and personally came in and changed the sheets in our cabin one time when we checked in and housekeping overlooked it. Food is good, at least one cute chick there, and beer was reasonable(I think 6 beers from the bar were about $13?) Then you get to see local celebs like Eddie Burger

Venice Marine.. I will never forget that crappy boat launch Venice had before Venice marina opened up. Talk about a real crappy launch. Its like night and day from those days.

Venice Marina, call Sketes Williams, 504-419-0217, he manages several houseboats there. if he has one available cancel your cabin, you'll be much happier in the houseboat. The Venice Marina restaurant is very good and they will cook your fresh catch if you want.

Another vote for Venice Marina. I boat over from Gulf Shores, and they are a great facility, and very nice folks. Simply good people! We were in the C-C motel the very first week it opened, and the manager was an absolute jerk. We planned to stay a week, but left after three nights. That said, the folks at the dock at C-C were very nice, but the clown-boy running the motel was too much for us to take.

I am not voting for Cypress Cove, but one plus is most of the guys with their own boats go to Venice Marina, so it is usually much quicker to get fuel and ice at Cypress Cove. Other than that, can't think of much else positive to say.

Just to let you guys know. The owner that no one liked at Cypress is gone. It is much different than it was a few years ago. Never stayed in the hotel so cant say anything about that. One nice thing is no commercial guys making wakes on purpose and beating up your boat. Also has easier parking now and a better ramp as well as a few places to actually leave you boat at the dock if you are staying a few days.

I used to frequent CC, and never had any issues, but that was a couple of years a go. I will say that VM sells, or at least used to sell ice by the shrimp basket, vs. bagged ice from CC. Prices were rediculously high at the VM store, guess thats to be expected.....;?

There was a bait house at the marina waterway enterance that I used to stop at by boat after launching to pick up my bait and ice (it was easier to shift baskets of ice down than wrestling them up from the ground). Super cheap. Havent been down sense before katrina. Couldnt tell you if that bait house is up and running yet. I always brought home an ice chest of shrimp if I had one empty.

Cypress went downhill for the first few years after Katrina. They alienated most of the small rec. guys and VM picked up the slack. However, it seems to me now that VM is getting complacent. VM never has bait when I need it. Hopefully, Cypress will get its live bait tanks up and running for next summer. Cypress has improved its launch and is building more private camps. Frankly, both are pretty good now and both have lodging options. Competition is a good thing. If it were me looking for a place to stay, I would forego any of the hotels and try to rent a houseboat....
