Default Snapper Check in thread

I am not asking or going to give out anybody’s private numbers even though I’ll probably already have yours. (Lol) however, maybe we could at least share information on the Depp’s where the fish are being found, where the Cobia seem to be located, where the sharks or not etc.

I have nothing to add to this until Saturday but if anybody was able to actually get out there and do any pre-fishing and wants to share would be greatly appreciated

We fished Friday out of Venice, LA. Ran to our first rig in 160' at first to try to get some live bait but decided to make a drop to see if the snapper were awake. Took us about 5 minutes to find the right depth and it was on. Got our 5 person limit in 30 minutes. This was my 11 year old's first trip and he showed us how it was done. He caught 6 of our 10 fish and brought up a double twice! After that we played with the mangroves for a little while but were only able to boat two. We then left there and went to deeper water to try for some AJ. We had several hook ups but they either broke us off or came unbuttoned. Caught a b-liner on a jig and later on hooked a short AJ that the kids got to fight for a little while then released it to grow some more. The little ones got tired and we decided to come in and we made it back to the marina by around 3:30 to clean fish and the boat. My boy told me that he thinks he could catch red snapper all day long; that's when I knew he enjoyed the whole trip and had fun. It was also my friend's 8 year old daughter's first trip and she appeared to have a blast as well. We are blessed to be able to do this! Can't wait until the next trip.

I am planning to go to my spots around tanks in the 100s which is about 25 mphs SSE of my Dauphin island launch and about 120 feet deep. I don’t have my Rhodan for another two weeks so be nice to me and I will pass you a fish beer etc. I will be catching my big snapper on 3 oz pink snapper slapper tipped with squid and or free lined live bait and big cigars. Unless the damn sharks are there then all bets off

3oz? tipped?
Over here we just stop the boat and bang on the side...they jump in, we decide which ones we're gonna keep and tell the others to shove off..

Default Florida gulf coast.

Out of Tampa bay to 120’ of water, I can’t tell you of 1 trip out of 25 where the sharks took a fish. And we usually had about 60 fish on deck (maybe 6-10 keepers). Red grouper, red snapper, and a few lane snapper.

My son and I fished 25 miles ESE of the pass at Fort Morgan. Fish were suspended at 45’ over structure. We did see a very large sea turtle swimming in the vicinity of structure, which is always a positive sign for me. Caught 25 legal-size snapper, kept 4 that averaged 25-26 inches long. Caught on frozen cigars and Northern Mackerel. Every gas rig we cruised by had standing-room only, but our numbers were clear. Minn-Kota had no problem holding us, and the Lowrance let us know where the better fish were suspended.

Chewing in Venice. Easy 4 man limit then a few extras for good measure. Back at camp for lunch.

We went 16-33 miles off Fort Morgan. Caught some nice red snappers, few short AJs, trigger, mangroves. The bite was so consistent all weekend the only time we moved was to get away from the damn dolphins and sharks.

Right...quite a few cheeks left to the crabs as well...but when you get tired of cleaning, you get tired of cleaning.

Anyone going out tomorrow? Looking at the forecast looks ok in the morning then deteriorating, we are thinking of chancing it out of Weeks Bay.

I'm headed out! Gonna start early and hopefully get back before it gets to bad. Hoping the rain will hold off until the afternoon
