Default Seatow automated vhf radio checks not available

I went to the Sea Tow website and see that "The Sea Tow Automated Radio Check System is no longer available."

Anyone know if this a permanent situation?

I tired numerous times over several years, from various locations, and NEVER got them to work. Not even once. Great concept but no loss since it didn't work anyway.

The one at Tarpon Springs has been out too. Their captain there told me the antenna was on top of the high in dry at the marina and kept getting unplugged when boats were loaded or someone walked up there. I guess conduit wasn't an option.

The FCC had an issue with the automated radio checks. It wasn’t Seatow and the USCG is upset they took it off line

Uh oh, looks like lawsuit was filed on or about 09/26/2020.

Bass, Berry & Sims filed a lawsuit Friday in Tennessee Eastern District Court on behalf of MariTEL Inc., a radio communication services business, and its affiliates. The complaint accuses Sea Tow Services International Inc. of continuing to use the plaintiff's licensed spectrum for transmission after the expiration of nine-year agreement. Counsel have not yet appeared for the defendant. The case is 3:20-cv-00424, Maritel, Inc. et al v. Sea Tow Services International, Inc.

F'ing lawyers ruin everything. Never worked in my area but could see the benefit where it did work.

Marital WAS the marine operator back before cell phones. You used your VHF to hail the marine operator, who put your call to a landline. Just like Andy Griffith and “Sarah”!

They quit paying for the use of MariTEL's channels but continued to use the same channels, they will lose, as they should.

Or MariTEL wants to use the channels for something else? Or MariTEL was asking an astronomical price to continue to use the channels. Wish we knew... could put some heat/pressure on MariTEL...

It was a great service. Kept traffic off channel 16. And I could use it at 3:00 AM, when there were very few boats out.
