talica reels
looking to get a talica reel but not sure what size to get... anyone have a recommendation on the most versatile set up? Id like to get one that's light enough for snapper but can handle AJs and some tuna

25

A 16 should meet your needs.

16.

Agree on the 25. You may want more beef than the 16 gives you if you’re getting into decently sized AJs and tuna. 16 will cover all ranges of red snapper.

Talica 20. I personally use & love my 20 for exactly the use you are describing. I even use the talica 20 for chunking for tuna and have found it to be very capable at this task. The only change i would possibly make is upgrade to the larger handle for the Talica 20. Plenty of line capacity if you go with a major braid spool.

If you get a 20 or 25 make sure you check the reel seat on the rods you plan on using. The 16 will fit most rods, 20/25 needs more room.

I’d definitely say 25’s very versatile. I’ve caught tuna, AJ, wahoo. Can use for snapper but I have electrics for those.

The 16 and 20 are the same reel guts, only difference is line capacity, and the 16’s don’t have the rings to hook into a fighting harness. IDK if 25’s have different drag/retrieve speed. We have caught lotsa GOM yft on the 16’s and 20’s and have never worried about getting spooledby 150#+ fish. Keep drag between 19-21 lbs. Clickers on reels for some reason frequently malfunction and need repair/replacement.

I don’t think so. Pretty sure the 20 and 25 are the same with different line capacity.
