Default Best Spot for kids to catch a fish in Destin

Taking a family vacation to Sandestin and bring my 23' boat with small kids, 2-7 years old. I want to spend a few hours trying to catch a few fish(Catch and Release), no trophies just looking to bend the snoopy poles. Where should we go??? The gulf forecast looks good so far 1-2' Sat - Monday. Should we run to reefs that sit in 65' of water or any areas in the bay that might be better?

Thanks in Advance

Go to any of the close public reefs and fish with a 2 hook chicken rig baited with squid on small circle hooks. Drop it to the bottom and they’ll catch all they want.

You can bump troll live baits on those close in public numbers and catch kings and/or bonita as well. You can catch fish right at the sea buoy.

Definitely head to a public number like the bridge rubble or one of the numerous wrecks close to shore and drop down the small circle hook with squid like it was said above. Miss Louise would be a good one!

Thanks All, we caught all the Triggerfish and Red Snapper that they could handle. We didn’t have to run far. We stopped and stayed at the Sandflea Reefs. The conditions were perfect this morning!

Amazing how easy it was to catch the endangered ARS and grey triggerfish.

Glad your kids got to have fun.
