Default Basic rod and reel set ups for Upper Tx GOM

What’s the basic setups y’all use for a day of snapper, kings, ling, Mahi and whatever else bites? Curious as to reel and line sizes, if you prefer spinnng to casting? Line/leader lbs size...etc? How many rigs would you have set up for a day for each person? Thanks.

A TLD 25 with 40# mono will catch about everything you'd be targeting. Pair it with a good offshore rod and you're all set for bottom fishing, drift fishing, and trolling. When you say rigs, are you referring to leaders or rods & reels?

Both..rods/reels...leaders. Just trying to get a sense of what guys use. I’m a noob and rigged up all my reels with 50lb big game or 65 power pro. I’ve got a Torium 20, Fathom 30, squall 15 and a TLD 15. Also a couple Battle II spin rigs with king leaders on them.

spend some time at the dock/marina and look at what others are using and talk to captains and crew members to get the best information-number of rigs and type of rigs varies dependent on what you are fishing for on any trip offshore

you've pretty much got it covered on conventional reels from lane snapper to wahoo.
It's personal preference, obviously, and the house is pretty much split between conventional and spinning.
I converted a few years ago to spinning, but still keep a few quality 2-speed conventional reels.
budget friendly, hard to beat a Penn Battle III (6K-8K) on a good MH Terez rod; dropping, jigging, pitching, and some light trolling.
or you can go nuts and get a pair of Shimano Twin Power reels and call it done.

Unless you're chunkin/jigging for yellowfin, you don't need 65# PP. You can pull large snapper and mid-size AJs to the boat with 30# braid- save the heavy stuff for the fluoro leader.
Except for trolling & tuna rods, my stuff is 30#-40# braid w/FG or RMF to 20#-80# fluoro leaders.
50W are 65# and tuna rods are 80# braid to 130# fluoro.wind-on
Learn to tie (and when to use) an FG, Palomar, Uni, Improved Clinch and San Diego Jam knot.

Unless you start getting into really big game fishing and venturing further offshore, you would do yourself a favor by going to all mono line on your reels. The reels you have already is a great start. You shouldn't have a need to maximize line capacity with braid and mono is a lot more forgiving, especially on cost.

You will want to bring as many rigs as you plan on fishing plus a few extra... depends a lot on your boat's storage space and your ability/desire to rig leaders while on the water. It really does vary based on what you are targeting. The more different kinds of fishing you plan on doing, the more rods and the more rigs you will need. There are rods that can be multipurpose but you will find yourself constantly re-rigging that setup as you change your fishing tactics.
