Default Pensacola to Ocean Springs

Planning to take the boat from Pensacola to Ocean Springs next weekend. Windfinder and other apps predicting W/SW winds ~ 10 mph next weekend, which should be fine. Plan on running outside in a 26' Jupiter w/ twins. Anything to be aware of? Looks around 95 miles.

nothing really, come out of pensacola pass head west, then head north after you pass horn island and you'll hit ocean springs. you can duck inside at mobile bay or after dauphin island if the seas are too much.

IMO, if you duck into Mobile bay, watch your plotter and don’t cut corners in a 26 footer. 300’ docks and bay boats with jackplates are the norm for a reason. Usually lots of debris in the water as well. Plenty easy to run in the daytime, just keep eyeballs out a little more vigilant than Choctaw or Escambia bays.

With that boat and that forecast, I’d think you’ll be perfectly fine to keep it outside and let her eat.

After you pass Dauphin Island cut in between it and Petit Boi and hammer down inside the islands.

You would have to try really hard to mess that run up.

There has been some dredging going on close to Horn Island on the western side about 1/2 to 3/4 mile from shore and about a mile or so from the western tip that you will need to be on the lookout for, they have moved around a couple times in the last couple months but stayed in that general area, the barge shows well on radar and the boundaries are marked with a red bouies. On Saturday and Sunday watch out for your normal H2O Idiots, we have plenty of them on the weekends.

The intracoastal is a nice ride also if weather deteriorates. I've done it plenty of times in 37 to 41ft inboard boats.

Easy peasy and a very nice run. The suggestion to cut in between DI and PB is a good one but the two cuts are unmarked, however they’re easily followed using your chart plotter. I’ve run the West one in inboard boats drawing 4’. Have a great trip.

As stated above - you can make this trip on the ICW or just outside the barrier islands without anything more than usual diligence. I have found going from East Horn to OS that I tend to run right by/almost over FH10 - -88 38.952 30 15.93. 6' clearance of that reef unless the tide is way out and it is less. As stated above there is some dredging going on, there will be the usual shrimp boats parked in and around the sound, but otherwise I cannot think of another obstruction you may encounter. The OS Harbor has great transient rates and puts you right in the middle of the action. Contact them through FB if you want. https://www.facebook.com/oceanspringsharbor/ Welcome to our town.

Thanks everyone. Super helpful, as usual for THT. I have a slip at OS Harbor for the weekend and will be out at Horn Island on Saturday.
