Default Venice offshore 7-4-19

i ran down Wednesday night with the intention of fishing Thursday and Friday, but something came up and I had to leave Thursday night. That said, fishing was great and weather could not have been better. I started the day at ocean black lion and worked my way east ending at thunder horse. I did not hit blue water until I passed devils tower. Every stop heading east the fishing got better. Tons of blackfin tuna and all the mahi you could possibly want. I didn’t get any yellowfin, but did have a big fish hooked up that ultimately broke the line so I assumed it could have been a decent yellowfin. I was fishing light tackle (6000-8000 Saragossa) so it made blackfin fishing a lot of fun. I wanted to head further off, but I was limited by fuel. I am looking into a 40-50 gallon bladder so I can make further runs and over night trips.

I did run south pass on the way out and in and had no issues with water, but my boat does not draft as much as a large deep v hull on plane.

Forgot to mention the huge shark that came around the boat for 15 minutes while fishing at thunder horse. It was awesome to see it so close and it was in no rush to leave so I decided to feed him some big skip jacks that I had for chunk bait. Really cool seeing it up close and personal.
