Default Newbie - Sonar Question

I recently got my first boat and am trying to learn to bottom fish. Mostly northern GOM from Panama City to Steinhatchee. I’ve got a Simrad GO7 XSE and am trying to learn to identify structure/bottom worth fishing. Went out of Carrabelle Friday and got skunked but had a hard time with rough seas. Can anybody point me to a tutorial in identifying productive bottom or post a pic of some good structure so I know what to look for? Mostly looking for snapper/grouper. Thanks!

I will say that there are some productive spots out there that don't mark anything on the sonar.

I have heard that before but how do you go about identifying spots like that? I never marked any definite structure Friday but marked what I assume were schools of bait. We dropped on them and caught 1 keeper sea bass and a few squirrels but nothing we were after. Went to crap pretty soon after that, had a hard time even keeping the transducer in the water for the seas.

Some of our numbers came from trolling for grouper. When you get a hit, mark it, turn around and do it again. Sometimes you see something, sometimes you dont.
