Default “World’s Luckiest Fishing Village”?

Fifty Years Ago when our Family adopted Destin as the annual Vacation spot, Yes it was! Not so much today.
Day 6 of our annual May Pilgrimage to Destin and My Brother & I came to Fish. We spent the Weekend satisfying the urge to recreate our memories through the Decades only to discover that Dolphins have invaded.😡 As we raced to reel in one of the many Spanish Mackerel migrating, the Dolphins took them if you dared delay a hookup retrieve.😡 Very frustrating. So we decided to Charter and lo & behold, the first hookup alerted the Army of Flipper and ruined it.😡
We managed to collect a dozen but then we picked up a Bonita (which these Dolphins dislike) and knew the Kings were around. Got 3 before they started clipping off subsequent hookups.😡
As If to add insult to injury, as we returned to the Harbor we were intercepted by the nice FWC. Full Inspection no violations, see ya bye as the pickings were plentiful. A private boat with poles in rod holders passed by and they got locked up for whatever but Thousands watched.🙄
Today we booked another trip for Reef Fishing and yet again, after the first stop (barely productive), the Flipper Army arrived to wipe us out the remainder of the trip.🤬
Only 3 of the billion charters here went out as the Winds from an offshore squall line graced us with a 4-6’ swell along with 16 kt blow. Rough going but absent Flipper, we would have had had an awesome trip as the Legal to Keep Species were biting. We will return in September to try our luck again but will likely just work the Bay bite as we will tomorrow as Flipper will remain offshore since it’s easy pickings.
Destin has a few charms left but few of those We have grown old remain to keep these IDIOTS running it in check, thus rendering it as just another Tourist Trap. Pains me to post this as now the 3rd Generation Of Our Family inherits the Property.

Fishing villages like you remember exist only in the 'developing' world now.

It all started when you arrived 50 years ago. Just the same for Tarpon Springs when my grandma arrived 100 years ago.

Dolphins have rednecks??? 🤔
You work for the msm? I lamented 50 Years Of Development that has transformed a geographically tiny area into a congested Hell.🙄

Last year was the first time I ever had a problem with flipper. Stole white trout off our lines. Maybe some firecrackers when they do that to scare them? I've watched videos of how the Japanese take care of dolphin and it ain't pretty. But if they good to eat have at it.

I don't suppose you would care to elaborate on your "remedy" ?

The only thing I know to do is to pack up and haul ass to another spot.
