My wife would get sick every time but insisted on going with me on vacations. She got the patches from a doctor and has been fine every since. But she also told me that the ginger hard candies and ginger ale seems to help take the puking feeling away.

First off, the ginger stick tricks, and all these other mythical remedies are a waste of time. If you are looking for a permanent solution then I would highly recommend you do as most have said and start experimenting with the different types of patches and drugs that have been already been mentioned. If you typically don't get sea sick and for some reason you have an onset of that nauseous feeling coming on then maybe try these little tricks but they are far from a permanent cure.

I bought my wife a relief band and it works every time. I started running charters last year and keep in on my boat and put it on probably fifteen people during the season, some already puking, and it fixed every one of them. Shortest time was about 5 minutes longest was probably 20 but every one of them felt better, went back to fishing and finished the trip. Saved a lot of trips and made for lots of happy customers. I always have my "magic watch" on board and am buying another one this year. Absolutely works and the people aren't drowsy from medication. I can't recommend it enough.

Myth Busters did a show on this. Turns out that 90% of it is 50% mental. Ginger worked, drugs were a mixed result and placebo was a mixed result. I'm sure the episode can be found on the google box somewhere.

Back when I first got scuba certified I had a mental thing.....nerves caused me severe headaches and nausea. On our 2 day checkout dives, Day 1 was flat calm and I got sick. Day 2 was lumpy as hell and I was fine while all others got sick. I happened a couple more times over the next months then went away for good. That was 30 years ago, and all has been well since.

I puke 95% of the time I go out. It's a given for me that I'll puke, sit down for 15 minutes and drink a coke, then fish. Last time I took dramamine, motion ease, ginger sniffing stuff, and wore a wrist pressure point thing, still puked halfway to the hole. for $100, I'll try the watch mentioned above. Next step is the Mary Jane. At least I'll have a good excuse when I get drug tested. Anyone know where to get some of that? :D

Good thread, thanks for posting!

I'm worried it may all be in her head and she gets nervous about it now so it just hits no matter what. She can read a book going down the road and never look up. I can't make it through a paragraph and that makes me swimy headed.
my mom is the same way, she can ride around the intercoastal all day but if i turn towards the Pass its chum city

It is surprising that so many people get sick, but still go offshore. The addiction is real.

My wife is the same way.. She uses the patch if we fly or go out boating all day.. She has tried the natural dramamine (ginger pills) that they have come out with.. Worked good the other day, for the most part.. It got choppy and she started feeling a little bit queasy.. The regular dramamine pills make her sleepy..

The patch can be worn for days.. Replace them after 48 hours I think.. However, they will give you cottonmouth after a day and blurred vision after a couple days.. At least it does my wife..

I eat fried chicken and drink lotsa beer. It hasn't failed me yet. NEVER start the day with greasy sausage and eggs; only black coffee.

damn guys THEY MAKE NON DROWSEY dramamine...Sounds like the band works the best. I think its mind over matter, Does she smoke cigs? If so that will do it...No going in a cabin either...Otherwise toughen up buttercup, if fishing was easy EVERYONE would be out here doing it!!!
