Mike, where are you going to hang out in FLA if I can ask? We'll be in Cape Coral the month of March.

Ralph, I have a camper there and stay at Elite Resorts in Salt Springs. It's in the NE corner of Ocala National Forest. Close to Lake George. Out in the middle of BFE, you don't even think you are in the typical Florida

Sounds nice Mike. We'll be much further south in the Ft. Myers area. I thought perhaps if we'd be somewhat close we could hook up for beer or cookout type thing. Just closed my camper up for the winter today so now we're looking forward to March and warm weather.

BlackH2oDog went to heated winter storage at Dubberts yesterday. 2018 was an awesome season that started in March and lasted through November. Spent plenty of days fishing with no boats near us. Of course, many days with the fish so close to West Harbor, you could not avoid others. Never made any long runs, in March, I went to D can once and then is was in the area West of Catawba. Then we fished up the middle until July then just off of Airport Reef to the Marblehead dump.

Made one run towards Wheatley for steelhead with my father. We handled nearly 50 walleye and numerous steelhead. The eyes had no problem taking spoons at speeds over 3.0 mph.

It was a great year to target eyes in any methods. Casting days were great, trolling days were great. Even did well jigging up the middle in the spring. Dipseys were a hot item this year. Stickbaits off the dipseys produced all year. Spent some time with Flicker Minnows this year. Most of my bigger eyes came off Flicker Minnows.

Have a great winter, looking forward to getting back on the water in March.

Why would you pull the boat out so early? The best fishing of the year is coming up.

This has been my experience in years past. After Labor day as the fronts start blowing up the lake, the fishing opportunities dwindle. I've spent too many mid November afternoons freezing my nuts off pulling and winterizing the boat. Those bluebird fall days come and go. They usually came on the days I couldn't get to the boat!
Good luck at the new job Russ.

well been a pretty crummy fall for me , weather wise. I'm throwing in the towel and gonna take electronics, tackle and canvas off the boat and get it ready to take in and have the outboard winterized, then store it.

Pulled last weekend. Changed lower unit oil, fogged engine and pulled batteries. Ready for storage.

I was at the marina today checking everything so I can pull the boat to storage tomorrow. There must be 50+ boats still in the water but glad I'm out. No reason to stay in with this awful weather and the lake looks like chocolate milk.

Hope it goes as planned, Dubberts isn't my favorite repair shop. How are they going to fill the hole from the I/O? Even if they put a bracket on for the OB shouldn't they cover the hole? My Scarab Sport had a bracket with twin Evinrude 225"s hanging off the transom. The gasket on the access plate that was on top of the bracket failed and the bracket filled with water. I didn't know it was full of water until I saw a gap developing between the bracket and my transom. I tried tightening up the bolts that hold the bracket on and the washers and bolt heads started to compress into the transom so I knew I had a problem.

Long story shortened......Wellcraft didn't seal the bolt holes that they ran through my transom and eventually water seeped into my transom and rotted it. I had an estimate of $3000 and 2 weeks to get the new transom installed......ended up taking 5 months and cost over $6K!! The reason I am bringing this up is because if there was an I/O hole still in the boat the water would have gotten into the boat and likely sink it.

Curious why you are switching to OB from IO? Everything with an OB is more expensive to repair than an outdrive and engine. Is your fuel usage going to improve that much? I think the G2's are the best looking OB on the market.

Russ the I/o were Volvo dps they were starting to need more and more repair ,VP is not cheap and everything is VP specific. The holes have been pluged and glassed in the brackets will cover the space where the outdrives were. I am not real concerned about fuel although anything less than 15gph x 2 would improve fuel usage. The boat is a 27' Baha Cruiser cat bought it with the intention of converting and keeping it. The access covers for the brackets are Armstrong which I had on my Parker and never had a drop of water in them, yes the bolts are going to be sealed as well. I have heard good and bad about Dubberts mine has been good so far .
