Default Best spots for anchoring/swimming on Grand Traverse Bay (Power Island?)

Our "Up North" vacation is coming up and I'm looking for some insider knowledge.

We usually head up to Charlevoix with the boat and are very familiar with the lake up that way. This year however, we are headed to Elmwood Marina on the West Grand Traverse Bay for a week. I know I've seen plenty of boats anchored just off the beaches at the South side of the bay near Traverse City, but are there any other good spots I should know about for dropping the anchor, swimming, and sunbathing? Preferably protected from rougher water with proximity to shallower water with a sandy bottom? It looks like there might be some good spots off Power Island that would work. Any info on Power Island in general and/or the best way to access it?

Also, any general info about boating on the Grand Traverse Bay would be welcomed.

We'll be running with a 1988 Regal Commodore 255.

Thanks!

We stopped to power island a few years ago with this being are first time on the island... There was a N/NW wind (Not ideal for this body of water in my opinion) that afternoon and we anchored up on the southern side of the island. Been on West Bay many times and this was by far the roughest water we boated in. It was very relaxing once we got there, but it was a half hour trip out.

Everyone was cordial, but I noticed the island drops off very fast and you only have about fifty to seven-five yards of shallow (rocky/sandy bottom) water to anchor in.

You will be able to see the shallow water dropping off to the deep water.

There is also a beach just outside of Clinch Park that is very popular too. You can't miss it!

Thanks for the response and tips on Power Island. I think we will take a trip out there. If not there, I'm not sure where else we'd go besides Clinch Park. I always see boats anchored there, but we wouldn't normally anchor near a large public beach.

Hoping to avoid that rough water of course. I know it has the potential to get rougher out there than what we're used to in Charlevoix. I would hope being in the lee of Power Island and Bowers Harbor would provide some protection if we do get some rough chop or rollers coming in from the North.
