Default Sandusky Bay Sandbar

This has been posted several times on FB. A few boats found some shallower than expected waters. If you use the Bay for access take note.

To windy to get the boat in on Monday. Thinking of taking my 16’ out off of Davis Besse. Any fishing reports from that area?

1st time on the water for 2021.
It was a very slow start over decent marks. 2.5 hours and we only had one Eye in the box.

The next 2 hours we boxed 14.

Bandits and Spro Minnow 120s
Ran one side 50 back and the other 100.

4 Offshore boards each side.

Southerly 20 knot wind with gust towards 25 had the lake a little angry.

Speeds were 1.2 to 1.4 upwind and about 1.4 to 1.5 downwind.

Worked the area near the CP dump to KI

Tight lines.

Russ: the jig bite is ON off of Davis Besse, anywhere from the beach out to 15/16 fow depending on the day and the water clarity. Wife and I managed a slow pick of 15 fish in 14 fow near K can on Easter Sunday morning, and I know it's gotten better since then. Typically the first light bite can be excellent, so if you get out at first light and arent getting bit, move around a little until you do. It slows once the sun comes up.

Thanks for the update, I want to fish Toussaint but I heard there was a huge pack of boats all over the reef areas. I like to fish inside of K Can so I might take my 16’ Starcraft out of Wild Wings.

Did you use jigs with or without minnows?

Gave up on the minnows years ago. I do keep fake, Gulp minnows on board, but I only use them to give my jigs a slightly heavier weight and a slightly larger/more visible profile. My wife outfished me last week with a naked/bare jig. I had my share of bites w my fake minnow, just 2 very different styles of jigging. Anyways, just to re-confirm, we used to buy the large minnows years and years ago but we learned along the way that you dont need them and they just distract you from fishing especially when the bite is hot, which is just before sun-up. If you're not catching then, move. Even if you move 100 feet, 500 feet, 1000 feet. Move. As the day progresses the bite typically slows but I've found that no matter what, somewhere, somehow, someone is catching fish. You just normally find that out the next day!
