Default Garmin handheld GPS recommendation

I have a Garmin 1040XS that is perfect for my needs. I'd like to purchase a Garmin handheld GPS as a backup or to take with me if I go on another boat, but I want to be able to import all routes and waypoints that I have on my 1040XS to the handheld device using a computer or chip. Which units would you recommend? And, I have a VUS513L Jacksonville-Bahamas version 2018.52 in my 1040XS. Do I have to purchase a new charts card for the handheld?

Hello,

I would recommend the Garmin 86sc. This unit is already loaded with the bluecharts for the entire US coast.

Thank you for the recommendation. I'll be purchasing it soon from your store. Another question. I've been reading about the Bluechart 3g but haven't figured out what added benefits over the 2g charts that I have on my 1040xs. In your opinion, is it worth it to upgrade and is the 1040xs compatible with 3g? Also, would I need to upgrade any other equipment to get the full benefit of 3g? Cost of upgrading to 3g?

Hello,

This really depends on where you are boating as to what upgrades/updates you will get. Here in our area, lots of depths and creeks were upgraded along with added detail on the chart along the waterways like docks, marina slips, etc. If you're boating primarily in one area, I would upgrade to the G3 Vision chart over the standard G3.

Good Morning,

The chart below would work best for your region.

I just purchased this chart from your store. Can I use the Bluechart g2 card that I have be used in another Garmin GPS device? It's currently matched to my device in Garmin Express.

Hello,

The Garmin Bluechart G2 charts can be used on multiple devices even if they are registered to a single device.
