Question Garmin Worldwide Marine Basemap

Does anyone have experience running Garmin Worldwide Marine Basemap on a Garmin EchoMap UHD 90 series? I am curious as to the advantage buying this device with Worldwide Marine Basemap over Garmin's LakeVu g3 or BlueChart g3. I fish the Texas/Louisiana bays and marsh, and inland lakes/rivers. Garmin offers the choice of (1) pre-loaded chart with the purchase of an EchoMap UHD. Why choose WorldWide Marine Basemap?

I am aware of the features of LakeVu g3 and BluecChart g3.

Thank you for your help with this.

Hi Ray,

I don't know of any advantages of getting a worldwide basemap over the Bluechart or LakeVu other than the units normally cost a little less. The only time we've sold units with the worldwide basemap over built in mapping was either when the unit was going to be used internationally and they were adding their own charts OR the intended use was primarily for using with Livescope.

Brian,

Thank you for the follow up. If you look at the Garmin website you will see that the EchoMap UHD 93sv becomes the 92sv at a $100 premium price if Worldwide Marine Basemap is selected as the pre-loaded map. This selection can not be reversed once preloaded at the factory.

I made the mistake of selecting Worldwide Marine Basemap when I purchased my EchoMap UHD 93sv directly from Garmin not really understanding what that was. I thought it would give me both LakeVu g3 and BlueChart g3 lakes and coastal, hence the $100 premium, did not notice the model change to 92sv, and was very wrong on all counts. It looks as though I will have to buy Garmin's BlueChart South Region Brownsville to Key Largo to get the detail on coastal Texas and Louisiana. BllueChart g3 does not seem to offer the depth contour detail I need, using Baffin Bay TX as an example. Am I wrong there?

Out of curiosity when I look to purchase Garmin Worldwide Marine Basemap standing alone I do not see that option. And, it appears the authorized Garmin dealers do not even offer this basemap option as far as I can see. So, this was my error.

I am well pleased with the unit. That said, my buying skills need some work, as I missed the bundles offered by TheGPSStore and other suppliers for LiveScope, and the GT54uhd -TM transducer. Garmin Support was courteous and professional in addressing my concerns and offered a 20% discount on a LakeVu or BlueChart g3. I thank them for that, and purchased the LakeVu g3 from your company and will use the Garmin $50 rebate.

Regards,
Ray

Clarification: here is the Garmin BlueChart g3 vision chart needed to cover the Texas and Louisiana Gulf coastlines and bays/marsh.

Follow up:

Here is the offer from Garmin for their Worldwide Marine Basemap:

https://buy.garmin.com/en-US/US/p/548793

It costs $0.00 to download.

When I purchased directly from Garmin the Echomap UHD 92sv by mistake (I meant to buy the 93sv with both Lakeview g3 and BlueChart g3 not understanding that was not possible) I paid a $100 premium for their Worldwide Marine Basemap. Specifying the basemap was my error. Why though does Garmin charge a $100 premium for a product they offer for free on their site? As I mentioned, Garmin Marine Customer Support was courteous and professional in responding to my request for a free map (chart) that was useful to me in my Texas/Louisiana coastal and inland fishing. They declined, politely offering a 20% discount off full retail, which I politely declined.

That said I am most impressed with the Garmin marine products In improving my 2004 Pathfinder 2200V. I have will soon purchase a second EchoMap UHD, this one the 94sv with BlueChart g3 installed, Garmin NEMA 2000 starter kit plus a T. I have recently purchased a LIveScope kit, and a stand alone LakeVu g3 sd chart, all from the competitive authorized dealer network.

I hope this helps anyone shopping for an EchoMap UHD.
