Default Garmin 78SC

Looking for a new handheld for backup to the main system. I'm thinking of going for the Garmin 78SC, seems to be the best handheld for marine use... What say you? Is this the best handheld marine unit?

Thanks

Wow those other models seem way cheap... Is the 78SC a newer and better model or is there not much difference? Can either one be upgraded with the latest charts via a PC?

Thanks for the help!!

I just went for the the 78SC. Order placed. Thanks again. My Garmin Montana crapped out, I didn't like it anyway on the water.

yes they are... We have few units left and clearing it out. The function is the same: GPS, Chartplotter, MAPs. As far as maps is concern, all upgrades are done with Garmin direct and should be doable. Bear in mind however that marine charts do not really change very much if all.

Got the device last night but it does't seem to be working right. The GPS is miles off it does't even come close to my location... Do you have a number I can call you at?

Greetings:

You can call use direct at Toll Free 8667944666 or direct 805 5319577.

I will suggest however that you call Garmin first at 800 8001020 and get technical support. It seems that the unit has not completed orientation which it does when used the first time or when it was last used from a different area. If not that, then perhaps a reset will be needed. Garmin Techs will be able to help you with the proper procedure.

If the matter is no resolved then we have to do an RMA

regards,

Colin

Hey Colin I'm heading to Mexico in Sept. Do I need a chip for this device while in Mexico?

Hi there. I am not 100% sure but probably not. Best thing to do is call Garmin 800 8001020 and ask for cartography to be 100%.

If you nee any maps let me know.

Hey Colin the unit just quit working on me this weekend. It will not power up...

What's the warranty on this thing? Any idea if Garmin will cover this.

By the way it did work in Mexico.
