Default Big green egg WOW!

Got tired of replacing $200 charcoal grills every other year. Bit the bullet and bought a BGE off of Craig's list today. This thing is amazing! I've used every type of grill, even making my own tandoor oven and this thing surpasses them all. Smoke, grill. Set the temp and forget it. Why did I wait this long?!?

I LOVE mine, have a large and a medium. The large cooks twice as good as the medium. Just bought an XL for the new house. Ready to fire it up.

I must be the only person who didn't like my BGE. Literally the only.

I've had a large around 7-8 years and love it. Just cooked three pizzas in mine. Here is one of the pies:

If you wait a while it makes you appreciate it more so, well done.

You're not kidding! So easy to dial in the temp.

Flour
526.45

Water
315.72

Starter
151.28

IDY
1.51

Salt
13.55

Total Weight 1,008.50 grams

Mixer Residue
50 grams

Grams / 13" Pie

Pulled this from my Excel Spreadsheet, but I use Caputo 00 flour and Italian Sour Dough Starter. I made the dough (hand kneaded) Thursday night and cold fermented it until about two hours before cooking. It's a high hydration dough that holds up well to the high heat.

Yes, the recipe posted above has 151.2 grams of my Italian sourdough starter in it and just over one and a half grams of yeast. Not my recipe, it's one from Jeff Verasano. Here is his website and it's an interesting read: http://www.varasanos.com/pizzarecipe.htm He now has his own restaurant in Atlanta.

Only thing I don't like about mine is that you have to baby sit it until coals get hot. Takes me about 20-30+min just to get it rolling. I use a looft lighter to get coals hot. I mean it cooks good food and amazing taste, but IMO just a pain at times especially on a work/school night. My BGE is a weekend warrior for sure. I might get the DegiQ to help with the "set it and forget it" part.

No you aren't. I like my pellet grill much better than the egg. It is so much easier.

My wife told me today if ours broke we would need to get a replacement right away.
There are very few things that have that approval in our house. Haha
