Default Dining out in Islamorada

Hey guys
What are some of the better restaurants close to Islamorada for lunch and dinner? The last thread I found on this topic was back from 2015 and I wasn’t sure if there was anything new I should check out. Hopefully will have some fish to bring to a restaurant one or two nights. Thanks and advance for the help!

I’d say that the 2015 listis probably still good for “better” restaurants except that Island Grill hasn’t reopened. My tastes run to bar food, so I’ll let others offer selections.

I will get flamed for this, but I can tell you a place to avoid like the plague. Ziggie & Mad Dogs

Wife and I ate here twice, both times the steaks were the worst we have ever had. I just can't believe so many people like this dive.

Morada Bay is great but a bit upscale. Islamorada Fish Company is a good choice. Lorelei is a great spot on the water with cheap drinks and good food. I got married in Islamorada and Green Turtle catered the wedding, so enjoyed their food too.

Have heard good things about M.E.A.T. but haven't been. Definitely stop by Islamorada Beer Company's tasting room.

All the places are hit or miss in the area. I've had good and bad meals at pretty much all of the restaurants listed above.

My favorite nice restaurant is Chef Michael's. His fish is very fresh unlike most of the others.

A lot depends on if you want good food or a good ambiance. There aren't many places that have both.

That's sucks to hear; before we stopped vacationing in the Keys we use to eat there all the time. I don't recall anyone every complaining about their food. Kind of sucked paying for 14 people to eat there but it really was worth it and the service was always first rate.

I'll never step foot into Morada Bay/Pierre's again. The food and drinks are way overpriced, inconsistent, the owner is a total POS, and the high turnover of the staff pretty much seals it. The only thing going for that facility is the location.

Kaiyo is great.
MEAT is fantastic.
I like the Green Turtle, they also do a cook your catch.
Lazy Days is pretty good.
I've had good meals at Ziggies but it was before "Mad Dog" Jim Mandich died.
Chef Michael's is great.

Square Grouper just opened up in Islamorada. We had a nice meal there right after they opened. nice setting.
Both Cheeca and the Islander have nice restaurants. By now, Islander should have 4 different restaurants, but no experiences yet.
Above Bass Pro is decent.
Next door to Bass Pro on the water is Morada Bay. Decent lunch or brunch, or full moon party.
Both Chef Michaels and Ziggies are good, but about 1 in 5 steaks will leave you disappointed.
Not a big fan of Marker 88, but very nice sunset setting. It can be great, just not always.

With the Keys, you just need to ask a lot of questions about where stuff comes from. For example, key west pink shrimp are to die for, Gulf grey or worse, Vietnamese shrimp are nasty. You gotta ask.

Grouper is great, but you gotta know its been out of season, so if it is on the menu, it came from somewhere else.

Have fun.

I have to chuckle at some of the restaurants that are stated as no good or ok. You can't go wrong with Lazy Daze. There is a gas station called MM 74. Go there for breakfast if you don't want to wait for breakfast at Robbies. Get the Heart Attack. There is no shortage of great food in The Keys. Please post later with where you ate and how much you enjoyed it.

Mangrove Mikes for breakfast/lunch.

Snappers for dinner.

Never had a good meal or service at Lazy Days.

Stop by Key Largo Fisheries on your way down and load up on your favorite seafood.......cook it yourself.
