Default Fl Keys "Off Season"

Is there such a thing as an off season? I have some vacation time to use and the keys are one of my favorite places. I have been there around Christmas and Spring Break but not in the middle of summer.

When are the keys (mostly looking at Marathon or Islamorada) the least crowded?

September after labor day until Fantasy fest is the slowest time down here.

We were down there in June last year for about a week. It was not a high traffic time, but dang it is that mid day sun HOT! Seas were calm, that was nice. If I had my pick, probably May would be mine, but my girl teaches so June was the soonest we could go. Had to buy an insurance rider to be down there in hurricane season.

Winter time are the northerners and summer time are the floridians. I would say September after labor day up until the end of October is the slowest it will be down there.

If I'm taking the boat, last week of May... just before schools get out, Northerners are gone and for a few days it's quiet...

Personally, my favorite "off season" is any weekday in June and July. Yes, September after Labor Day is nice, but the fishing is slow and it's peak hurricane season. October is nice, but the days shorten up and of course there is crazy Fantasy Fest traffic.

There is really no "off season" anymore, at least not like there used to be. Islamorada really has no off season because they get flooded with people from the mainland. It's just close enough for people to zip down, even for the day. That's why I love where I am, Key West is just far enough away that anyone that arrives by cruise ship or plane won't come my way, but it's also another 1.5 hours from the Upper Keys.

Shhhhhh.....don't tell anyone.

The weekend after Labor Day is absolutely empty. We were there in 2018. Even a lot of bars and restaurants were closed, they all took their annual vacations then.

Never fear BD, it'll just be our secret. Sounds like you may have the best place in this state, buddy. Even here, far away from the Keys. it's become so crowded. Have been in SWFL for 35 years now, and man has it changed. I just got a tshirt that says "Don't New York my Florida". As Paul Simon said years ago in a song, "they paved Paradise and put up a parking lot." That's a primary reason I love the open water dearly - so far you can still find peace and solitude and beauty out there.

I go late September every year for a week or two (my kids have fall break). It is peak hurricane season but very slow. Still really hot too. Fishing is pretty good.

To be honest with you --- most weekdays are not that bad...

Its Thursday to Sunday thats the problem due to the Miami crowd coming down ...

But as others have said,,,, Sept is dead ...

When I worked at Tropical Boat Rental in Marathron , It was after Labor Day when things went quite. Kids in school, everyone up north going to the lake and Floridains had their summer already. Alot of businesses change their hours and days and happy hours are easy to get to as well as most places. You could book a hotel when you know the weather will be right as most have room.

I like September just after school starts. Late July and Aug if you miss lobster time is good. It is hot as hell but if you get out early and back by noon it is nice,

Florida schools start middle of August. Once that happens things empty out, week after Labor Day is quiet people wise. Next hurricane is expected 2025. BUT you never know???

Totally agree with you, but I think it was Joni Mitchell. All we got from Paul Simon on the topic was "silence"
