Default Marathon

Hello All. Booked a house for a week from a THT person from 6/1-6/8/19, in Marathon. Have been to the Keys 8-9 times, fished a little, yellowtail, etc. Bringing my boat down, 2018 Sportsman 232 w/Yam 250. I have reached out to Piner and am going to try to get him on my boat for a day or two to shorten the learning curve down there. Any other thoughts, things to do, places to go? Normally we stay in Key largo and Islamorada. Not familiar with Marathon at all. We are not much into the partying scene, just relaxing, having a nice dinner, etc.
Thanks for any and all help.
Tom

Dolphon Research Center, Turtle Hospital, Diving museum in Islamorada. If you catch something you want to eat, there are several good places that "cook your catch" for a price, it's nice to do once or twice. The restaurant at Faro Blanco is very good, but there are several places to try.

Thumbs up

Going to be there the same week - in Key Colony. Plan on going off shore as much as Mother Nature will allow. Am stoked. Been too many years since my last trip. Will follow this thread for similar advice.

I'll be there during that same time too. I highly recommend Sparkys landing for happy hour. As far as fishing that time of year, any moron can do it and you'll see them all on the water. Drag a trolling spread anywhere outside the reef and you'll catch dolphin and tuna. Once you get more dialed in you can get more specific but the fishing is so good down there its harder not to catch something.

The Tackle Box for local info and your tackle / bait needs. Burdines for a green chilie burger and fries, they have fuel and free ice with 10 gallons + and live bait . Money Island ,halfway down the seven mile bridge oceanside, good clean sand for relaxing swim and easy access, look on chart. Sand bar oceanside of Vaca cut to cool off. Smiths fuel for on the water fuel and best price on chum / bait. Across from the dollar tree. Locate it on your phone then chart it by water, easy from Vaca Cut. Drife a few crabs over the seven mile rubble for a chance for a permit. If oceanside is too rough 10 + miles out in gulf ,anchor chum snapper maybe macs and balihoos for fresh bait. Good Luck.

Thanks for all the suggestions. And guys that will be down there the same time, keep in touch. Be good to share intel. Have done Robbies and Key West many times. Was down there a couple weeks ago for the boat show and stayed in key largo. Looking forward to just being a “local” for a week in marathon. Thanks for the tips on fishing. I do have a hot spots maps for upper, middle and lower keys as well. Thanks for the restaurant suggestions.

Same here, staying on KCB 1st week of June. Offshore in the mornings, sand bars in the afternoon. We head south and hopefully pick up a few Frigates.

Sparky's is a great restaurant/tiki bar. I also enjoy Sunset Grill for sunset drinks or hanging by their pool. I've been to Castaways numerous times and loved the place but the last time I went there, I wasn't impressed with my meal which was unusual. Faro Blanco is another great location on the water for dinner or drinks. Surprised no one has mentioned snorkeling or diving Sombrero Reef, it's a beautiful dive that's located about 4 to 5 miles offshore.
