Ah, you better get used to it, sorry to say! There is hardly a vacant lot that is not either for sale, under contract, sold or already being built on and the traffic and road construction will continue indefinitely. No sooner do they finish one stretch of road then it only takes a few years for it to reach maximum capacity since they never stop building, so it is an endless cycle of building a road, build more shopping centers, housing developments, etc then need to build more highways or expand the ones already there. How many of you recall the arguments the morons on the commission made about the new Palm City Bridge? Yea, it was going to ease congestion blah, blah, blah. If you bought that line of BS, then you're naive! What it was meant to do is open up more property for development, so now the new Palm City Bridge is getting pretty congested, and it will get worse. Yea, it eased congestion for a while but in a few more years, that will be a gone.
Those of us who came from Miami, as an example, know all too well what you are complaining about at Kanner & 95. When I went to UM, Kendall Drive was farmland west of Sunset, when I left Miami, there was hardly a road that was not always under construction, and Kendall was built out all the way to Krome Ave. Over 40 years in Miami and i cannot recall a time when 95 was not undergoing some expansion or construction somewhere between Miami and the Broward county line. In Stuart, Doug Smith and his boys are going to town issuing permits and all those things many of us left Miami to get away from [me over 20 years ago] are coming to a neighborhood near you....sooner or later! I do understand that a private property owner has rights, but wouldn't it be nice if the F**king crooks who always get elected, would put the quality of life of current residents first for a change! I mean do we need a dozen more strip shopping centers? .....

I'll assure permitting is still a royal PITA. However, most development now is done by BIG developers who have staff and lawyers to deal with the county. Small mom-and-pop developers are a thing of the past. I can't necessarily blame Doug..his pro-development policy is actually pretty moderate in retrospect.
What pisses me off is the pro-Brightline and pro-commercial airport stance of many public officials.

I travel that crap a couple of times a day. Why were they not required to do the work when they have to merge it to 1 lane at night? They will get it done just in time for the housing market dump. Should be nice and quiet for a little while after that.

Random comment from someone south of you. I started going to Stuart on occasion about 6 years ago and considered it my escape plan from the crowds further south. I was up there daily 3 years ago for a summer and fall and absolutely loved it, semi-seriously looked at property, even made an offer that didn't go through. Have been up there 6 full days in the last 6 weeks and HOLY SHIT WHAT IS GOING ON. I think it's less crowded where I am at in PBC. It took 3 times as long as I expected to get from Palm City down to the waterfront in Stuart the middle of the day. And the highway work you are referencing feels like it has been going on since I was up there daily 3 years ago?

The construction work has been ridiculous though. Reminds me of the line in the Sand Lot movie my kids use to watch all the time...FOREVER...

There used to be a big difference between snowbird season and the rest of the year, but not anymore. As for Doug Smith....this guy is an arrogant lackey for the developers and make no mistake, the only thing holding him and his buddies on the commision back from speeding up the Miamification of Stuart is the Comp Plan which was created by people who put the best interest of Martin County residents before those of outside develoepers.
