Default Mid-winter weather window

With these cool/cold days it's easy to get complacent about keeping a weather-eye out, but just in case some of you are snoozing, this looks to be a damn good weekend for the middle of January.

Who else is planning to burn some octane this weekend?

How’d you do today?

I had to work, but planning on running the skiff for the next few days. Actually looks calm most of the week.

Well, some things worked out as planned and others didn't. The weather was actually better than I had hoped for!

We ran out of Tarpon Springs, launching at Anclote River Park around 3pm after picking up some Mud Minnows, because they were all out of shrimp. The game plan was to fish the evening snapper bite over a wreck in 75'. We made it out in plenty of time and even had enough spare minutes to get my ass handed to me while vertical jigging by a couple of AJ's that I couldn't stop on tackle that should have been plenty stout enough to do the job.

Then we got positioned with the Rhodan and setup for the evening and started chumming with both a frozen block as well as sandballs out of a concoction of glass minnows, oats and oil. That really got THEM going, but unfortunately the THEM was a pack of 15# or so AJ's that basically destroyed our snapper tackle and depleted our stock of jigheads. We headed back in just after dark, getting back to the ramp around 9, after giving another boater a tow in that had run out of gas in the river channel.

We never saw another boat the whole time after we cleared the sandbar. Other than the fish CATCHING, the day was perfect!

Another nice day today, I hope everyone is taking advantage before nature reminds us again what season this really is.
