Default Gasparilla Lite...for those that have been there/done that!

Last year we caught a story in the local beach rag about a group of ''Pirates'' that decided that the Tampa Gasparilla Invasion was too much to endure so they started Gasparilla Lite.

We had all of our old Pirate garb for the boat and our crew tucked away neatly in a bin in the attic and thought that we would check it out.

We arrived all decked out at the prescribed meeting place, Bellaire Causeway Bridge, to find a couple of dozen boats lining up! Pretty decent turnout for a fledgling event.

We all formed into a haphazard line and proceeded south towards The Pub restaurant. Once we arrived at The Pub we invaded! What a great time that was.

The new owners (Caddy's) did not expect the large turnout and were thoroughly taken by surprised. They accommodated the huge flotilla as best they could and when all the food was eaten, and the grog was sucked down we headed towards Indian Rocks. We quickly overwhelmed the municipal docks and walked into the village to plunder. Couple of hours of that nonsense and we boarded our vessels and headed for home port.

Left our dock in Madeira Beach around 11am and were home by 4!

Had enough Gasparilla to satisfy everyone's needs and discussed next years participation...well it's now next year!

Here is the link to the event Facebook page and the event coordinators phone number.

If you want to taste the spirit of Gasparilla without the mayhem of the Tampa Invasion, give it a try!

Look for ARRR Boat, we'll be out there!

Looks and sounds like fun!

We have never been to the real thing so we are going to experience that this year.

One correction though, Saturday is the 26th.

Have a great time!

Oh you do it on the exact same day, interesting. I dont venture on the water that weekend but will be on the shore, unfortunately impossible to leave my neighborhood from Friday afternoon to Sunday Morning... I am surprised this hasn't been in the news.

It was in the local beach papers last year, that is how we found out about it. I think this year the event will probably get more press as the local businesses have embraced it and are preparing for it.

I live long that route and mistakingly found out about it as we decided to go for a late afternoon cruise, about 1 or so. At first I thought they were boats that had gone to Gasparilla and on the way back, then realized they were just a bunch of outcast. Looked like a fun, "mature" mini Gasparilla....will probably put it on the schedule for this year.

Wife and I went to a Lightning game at Amalie, and walked down to Jacksons for some food. One of the events was going on, not sure which, their was a big pirate boat tied to the dock and pirates and wenches running around everywhere. It was all good until they started shooting off the guns, using blanks, they were all black powder judging by the smoke, but man they made a racket. So much so that a lot of the folks at Jacksons on the outside bar got up and left. They even were shooting a small cannon off the bow of the ship, which made quite the image with a ball of fire coming out of the muzzle.
I didn't mind, thought it was cool, but not everyone around me shared the same opinion. lol

I for one can't believe we celebrate rape, murder, and pillaging but can't have a statue of a Confederate war hero because it's offensive.

Civil war stuff doesn't provide a workable excuse to have women dress up in skimpy outfits and for everyone to consume lots of alcohol. Find a way to sex up the war and you'll be good.

The organizers are expecting a much larger turnout than last year's inaugural event. They have reserved spaces at The Pubs docks and the rest are first come first served. There will be an area set up for anchoring off The Pub and a shuttle Tiki will ferry you from your boat to The Pub. Definitely shaping up to be a great event once again this year.

Hope to see you there!!
