Default Tampa seafood restaurants

My sister is flying into Tampa, and is looking for a few suggestions for the best seafood places you can suggest. Quality is most important. Even a dive with great food is ok. Probably 8-10 people. Thanks for any advise

Surprisingly Tampa does not have any good seafood restaurants. There are all of chain type places fromoderately priced to expensive.

But on on the other side of the bridge there are a number of good local places. My top list are

Dockside Daves
Keegans
Wahoo’s
Salt Rock
Frenchys
Rusty Bellies

Big Rays Fish Camp - more of an order at the counter and picnic table type place. But really good. Talking about the location on interbay blvd.
Or Cirlces in Apollo Beach. If they want to stay on the east side of the bay.

On Clearwater Beach my go-to is Bait House. Outside seating is weather dependent, biggest table is for 6 but tables are close together. Limited menu but all good.

I don't know about Tampa proper. Or upscale.

Salt rock, Islandway grill. Baytenders in St. pete is supposed to be good as well. Rusty bellies up in tarpon or frenchy's in clearwater. Plenty of options towards the beaches, not so much in tampa.

Happy Fish on Armenia ave is pretty good...

Oystercatchers on the Causeway is another, and Rusty Pelican is out there as well

And I have always liked the original Shells restaurant on S Dale Mabry and Azeele

I haven't eaten there but Catch 23 on Linebaugh has a good reputation.

I second Happy Fish as well as a place called Pisco's. Both are Peruvian restaurants that serve ceviche and a fried seafood dish called Jalea. And if they have the soup called "chupe de camerones" I'd give that a spin as well or "Arroz con Mariscos" (fried rice dish with seafood). Check out their websites.

My favorite is Seabreeze Island Grill in Redington Shores. Great outdoor seating. Never had a bad meal there. Highly recommend the coconut shrimp!

They have the best grouper sandwich I have ever had and I usually don't eat much grouper. There are maybe 3 indoor wobbly tables and chairs and outdoor picnic tables. Great food but kind of a dive look-wise.

Have her check out Anna Maria Island. If you want a old Florida feel and cool atmosphere check out the Rod and Reel Pier we like to sit downstairs but upstairs has some really nice views if you want fine dining check out Beach Bistro.

A little closer is Rusty Bellies in Tarpon Springs and we went to Olde Bay Cafe and Hogfish Camp in Dunedin yesterday.

BUT the absolute best is Star Fish right before Anna Maria Island in Cortez. Old fishing village and Star fish is a old school fish market and restaurant where all the commercial guys bring in their fresh catch. They have tables out side and it’s a great atmosphere. It’s the best I’ve had and cash only I believe.

May want to check out Swigamajig at Sparkman Wharf. (The old channelside) downtown near Amalie Arena) there are a few other food stalls there as well. The menu will be sure to change but the food is pretty good and they usually have some sort of seafood items. Casual, all outdoors. Lots of different options for people to chose.

For close to the Tampa area proper you might want to try here. There have been other good ones listed above but for down town area the food has always been pretty good. Neat atmosphere.

Have been disappointed with Ulele twice now.

"Bar Fly" in Safety Harbor is one I frequent alot. Good fishing theme.

"Black Pearl" in Dunedin is outstanding, but a smaller place. A party of 8 might be tough.

"Cooper's Hawk" and "Roy's" there near the airport might be an option for a larger party.
