Headed across from Miami Beach on July 18-22 and staying at a RW townhouse across from the Hilton... Probably be over a few times before then as well and hopefully soon. Anyone else going that weekend? Should be packed for the concert

Default Going to Bimini by boat for the first time

My husband and I are planning on taking our boat from Miami to Bimini for the first time. If the weather is good, we are planning on going June 22-29. I need any advice from those who have made the trip. The more I read, the more nervous I get. I would love to be able to make the trip with another boat for our first time but not sure how to arrange that. We will be driving from Alabama down Miami. Needless to say, there is no one from here that has ever done it to get advice from.

I'm planning on going over on the 22nd June also, leaving out of Port Everglades. If you'd like to cross with us your more than welcome.

You may want to look at going on Bahamas Fling, sponsored by the govt and you go over in a group. They have some Bimini trips right around that time. I am probably going to go on one of them. Google Bahamas Fling for info

Do what you need to do but the captain of your boat needs to check in when Immigration and Customs opens the next morning. Captain needs to have everyone elseís passports and filled out cards. Several locations between South Bimini and North Bimini. Be sure to have your quarantine flag flying on your boat before you dock it overnight. Only change to the courtesy flag once youíve gone through the Immigration and Customs process.

I don’t want to understate crossing over the first time but most people get to Bimini and go “that was it?” It’s 49 miles @ 90į from Key Biscayne (Miami). The main thing is to have your insurance in the form of good quality Life Vests (not the West Marine 6-pack), Life Raft, Mounted VHF with high antennas, Handheld VHF (in Ditch Bag), EPIRB, Ditch Bag, and optional SPOT/inReach. If you’re running 32-35, you’ll be there in 90 minutes and in the summer you’ll almost always be in sight of another boat ... kinda like a highway between Miami - Bimini. I think it’s more important to have the items I listed above than a buddy boat.

Hope this isnít a repeat, but canít find any information yet. Will be crossing in June and parking at Harbor Towne Marina. Iíll be driving down from Jacksonville the day before we go so I was wondering if anyone had any recommendations on a good hotel for one night that would accommodate truck and trailer parking. I guess the other option would be to leave the boat and trailer at harbor Towne that night and then stay at a hotel, but not really wanting to leave my boat unattended over night like that (even though I know they have security). Anyone have any personal experiences on where to stay? Thanks!

Anyone else planning on crossing June 6th weekend?

What I do is launch when you get there and cruise on to Pier 66 marina and stay the night there, next morning jump in the boat and go.

I've been crossing for about ten years now. Send me an email if you have any questions, and I'll tell you what I know. I'm from Louisiana, we own a condo there at Bimini Sands. timewellwasted1969@yahoo.com

Harbour Towne has 24 hour security. I use them every time that I go to Bimini, and have never had anything missing from my truck or boat. I wouldn't hesitate to leave my truck and boat there for the night. I hope this helps.

Do they charge for that, or is it something they do to promote tourism?

The rooms look pretty reasonable there. Any idea on the per foot price for a wet slip?
