Bimini for Memorial Day weekend looks like a bust at this point in terms of sea conditions. If you haven't left by Wednesday you are pretty much screwed with seas forecast 3-5 building to 4-6 through the forecast period, maybe coming down a bit for Monday. Does not sound like a lot of fun to me, but if you do manage to make it over at least the island marina's won't be crazy busy. Most places have been sold out for for almost 2 months, but I'm guessing that there are a few spots opening up real soon. Island was likely to be a shit show anyway with power outages and water shortages if it's anything like it was last year ...

Default Power plant fire

Anyone going over anytime soon be prepared to not have power unless the house has a generator. Power plant fire and total loss of plant.

Great.... this will probably take weeks to fix. Anyone know if Bimini Sands has a generator for the units? Just booked today for next week.

No Bimini Sands does not have a site wide generator. Some individual units may have them, but in most cases doubtful.

This is very sad as it will destroy the livelihood of the friendly people of Bimini. For many of us in South Florida, the Bahamas are our next door neighbors and its residents our friends. Let's hope the Bahamian government steps up with a massive effort to rebuild the plant. Maybe in partnership with the private sector. But the previous comments are right on point, it takes the Bahamian government forever to get anything done.

I'm crossing the first week in July to stay at Resorts World Hilton. Should I just go ahead and cancel now?

We have reservations at Hilton in 2 weeks so I just called them, they have power and said there was a fire at the power plant but it was not a total loss and that 75% of the island still has power.

There is only ONE power plant that supplies power to Bimini. RW has a small generator for emergency only situations that powers only the casino are nearby sections. Call someone other than RW to find the real truth.

Wait to hear how bad the damage is. I read another post saying that they have 1 or 2 working and some have power. You can't compare this to Puerto Rico because in that case, every pole and wire was on the ground. Bimini has the infrastructure ok, just need the motor to be running. Lets see what the reports are today.

Wow this seems to be great news, based on early reports(which seem to be greatly exaggerated) I was very skeptical , very happy to hear
