Default Bimini Port Question

I have a 42HCB purchased in Dec in FL and I am using it in FL at this time with a temporary permit. I have applied for a Coast Guard Documentation and have a letter stating that I have applied. Entering Bimini requires Vessel Registration, I am just wondering if Buyers Agreement (Proof of Ownership) and letter stating I have applied for CG Documentation is enough as this is all I have at this time. Has anyone had an experience with this situation? I have called the Bimini port number and no answer. I have emailed Resorts World Marina as well and awaiting a response.

Thanks!

All you need is a running letter and you should be good to go. If you went thru a Documentation agency, they should provide you with the running letter, just as if you would have to show to any LEO if you were stopped here in the US.

It honestly depends on who you get at the counter. Sometimes they are ok, and other times they want to show their authority, but just be calm and always say Yes sir and yes mam.

I was at BGC this past weekend and a boat owner in front of me at Customs didn't have his registration but used several past cruising permit receipts to prove ownership. After a little negotiation they accepted the permits.

Default Customs Response

I spoke to Cooper who works in Port Customs for Bimini and Cat Cay 242-347-3100 and he said I would need the running letter (Proof I applied for CG Registration) and proof I purchased the boat like bill of sale. So that is reasonable and what I had hoped for. I thought I would share the information in case the questions comes up again.

Good Stuff, looks like our April trip is on.

My son has gone over to Bimini three times from Miami while waiting for his Coast Guard documentation. The government shutdown has slowed the process. NO PROBLEM as long as you bring your bill of sale and your letter from the Coast Guard that it has received your submission for documentation.

I always launch and park at Harbour Towne Marina in Dania. They have 24 hour security. Never a problem there. Call Bimini Brown at 242-473-3314 about fishing. Brown is the man. Tell him you got his number from that Cowboy from Louisiana.

No they are talking about Coast Guard documentation in lieu of state registration not the DTOPS sticker.

When I was over two weeks ago, an older Floridian was checking in behind me. He didn't have his Florida registration. When the customs lady asked for his papers, he had absolutely nothing. She asked for a copy of the bill of sale. He said the boat was so old he didn't have it. She asked what happened to the registration. He said it flew out of his electronics box a while ago. Another customs guy asked "Do you have any proof that you own the boat?" The guy said no. Another asked if there was someone at home who could send over a photo of some proof of ownership. The guy said no. Then the Floridian started getting annoyed at the Bahamians, which was completely absurd since they were trying to help him out and were being very flexible. I jumped in and asked if he had a HMS fishing permit on board, and he said he might have an old one and would check. It's been my experience generally that if you are nice and friendly, most of the Bahamian customs and immigration folk will be friendly and accommodating. I don't know what happened to the Florida dude. I don't think they turned him away.

It's looking like our trip is going to be postponed until mid-july because of work scheduling problems. So far three boats one a sail boat that will leave early and be our base of operations, the other two 25 to 30 foot center consoles to do diving and fishing from. We went and scouted the Haulover Marine Center and it's truck trailer parking this weekend. It was a free-for-all at the ramps and not a lot of parking is Southern parking lot was closed with a gate couldn't find anyone to talk to how does one Park for a week there? How much is it to park there for a week? How safe is it to park there for a week? As always so many questions this is a good start

go up too Harbour Towne in FTlauderdale. Good security so you know you will still have a truck and trailer when you get back.

Think it was $40 a night. Well worth it. Just saw on Facebook a few weeks ago a guy put out a BOLO for his stolen truck from Haulover.

We are planning a trip 24-27 May out of West Palm Beach if anyone is interested in going. Plans are for diving and snorkeling. Leaving around 0800 on the 24th weather permitting. Return will be on the 27th around 1000.

What he said and a box of doughnuts or fresh Publix pastries never hurts to hand them...Helped many of times to lighten the "high authority" mood
